THE MINOR DETAILS.
WHY NOT EXPLORE OUR WORLD AND SEE ITS DEPTHS.
WHY NOT EXPLORE OUR WORLD AND SEE ITS DEPTHS.
DISLIKES :
- Cotton Candy. It got stuck in his hair once at a carnival and he and his mother spent the whole rest of the day picking out little melted pieces of it. The smell didn't was out of his hair for days, and now that stuff just makes him nauseous.
- Border patrol, especially the ones who volunteer to do it for free. What kind of heartless people deny a person a better life in a free country? And what kind of free country pays people to do that? He thinks the last lines of the National Anthem need some serious editing. "Land of the free? Home of the brave?" More like land of the oppressors home of the heartless.
- The whole conservative movement. He probably overgeneralizes a lot of what they're about, but he's seen the republican candidates of the past, and their platforms make him sick to his stomach.
- Celebrity gossip. The most pointless thing ever. He doesn't like Sandra Bullock for her husband's cheating scandal. He likes her because she's awesome in Speed.
- Lawn Mowers. He's grown to despise them after years of yard work. His father always gave him the chore of mowing the grass. He could stand any other chore, but every time this one got put on his plate he would huff around for hours after finishing it.
- Bikes without the training wheels because his bike still has them.
- Halloween decorations. They're just so tacky. And everyone knows October 31st is really Dia de los Muertos (Day of the day)- or they should.
- Tourism. Can people not visit Paris without buying a "I Love Paris" t-shirt, or a stupid snow-globe of the Eiffel Tower? It's about creating memories for yourself, not buying stupid over-priced junk to stuff in the back of your attic.
LIKES :
- Siestas. Nap time is something he's kept up even though school's stopped it after kindergarten. He thinks it's a necessary part of the day and just takes a little snooze whenever he feels like he's getting groggy. Some people think he's narcoleptic because sometimes he'll make the decision to end a conversation and take a nap. But no, he can actually control it. He just tends to choose strange times for nap breaks. On more than one occasion, he's curled up in the shower.
- Cat Ballou. He saw the movie, like, once when he was eight or nine, but he was amazed. The chick was the biggest bamf ever. He is determined to find his own Cat Ballou. He talks about the movie a lot, more than he should because by this time, he's mixed up a lot of the scenes and barely knows what it's about anymore. He just knows that this chick robbed trains.
- Photography. He takes pictures of everything. He calls himself a life documenter, and seriously whips out the Minolta slt 101 at any random moment. You'll find pictures of knocked over garbage cans, parked cars, a park bench bum, things of that nature all over his bedroom wall. When he got an apartment, that stuff moved with him.
- The Dream Act. He's been supporting the act's passing since senators Orin Hatch and Richard Durbin proposed it. He's been on the edge of his seat waiting for the consensus from congress about it. He watches a lot more C-span and CNN than is probably healthy for anyone. You'd think he were watching football the way he yells at the screen sometimes.
- The Killers. Hot Hot Heat. The Cars. Sondre Lerche. Bob Dylan. A lot of indie rock and old rock.
- Lemonade on a hot day. His mother makes the most amazing lemonade. It's some family recipe and he's pretty sure it includes one hot pepper, but she won't tell him until he get married. And even then, she's just going to hand the recipe off to his wife.
- His mother. He loves his father, but his mother is pretty much his best friend in the world. He tells her practically everything, and hangs out with her a lot. He visits at least once a weekend even though his old house is now a good thirty minutes drive- not even considering weather and traffic conditions.
- Kush. He doesn't do it all the time, but after exams and long days at work, he just likes to wind down with one good joint.
GOALS :
- Become a father.
- Donate his body for medical research when he dies.
- Get the rest of his family across the border.
- Read a whole series. He's never been able to stay latched onto books that turn into a series, but one of these days he wants to finish all of those series he started off.
- Devise a criminal master-plan. He has no intention of doing anything illegal, but he just really wants a full-proof plan at his finger-tips just for the entertainment of it. He even wants want of those cool blue-prints of some big bank or the inner-workings of some mall to plot all of his ideas on.
- Visit somewhere off the radar. He doesn't want a summer vacation in Paris, he just wants to see a real, non-tourist run city in a foreign country.
FEARS :
- That he's not going to get to see his grandparents again before he dies.
- Disappointing his parents in some way.
- Being deported.
- Too much normalcy in his life.
SECRETS :
- His drug use is one of the only things he has not told his mother about. He knows that if she found out he was using some of the money from his job to make a few buys a month, that she would have a lot to say in Spanish, and none of it would be nice.
- He and his family are illegal immigrants, all but his youngest sister, actually. He hasn't told anyone for fear of political views getting in the way of what they really think of him as a person.
WEAKNESS :
- Girls with tattoos. Guys can catch his eye much more easily with a tattoo as well. But if a girl with something inked in french on her arm walked up to him, he'd immediately melt in shyness.
- A person who has a great talent at drawing or painting. He never could quite get drawing or painting down. He always wanted to be a painter, next to photography, but it just didn't come to him the way it did some people. When he sees a person with a real talent for it, he's so enthralled in their abilities. He bugs a lot of the painters he knows to make him some originals for his apartment.
- Milkshakes. Offer him a milkshake, and he will follow you anywhere. Except, maybe off a cliff.
STRENGTHS :
- Intelligent.
- Helpful. He loves offering up his services to people. It doesn't have to be the biggest favor of your life. He's the guy you can call to come pick you up when your car's broken down, or when you need help moving in to your new place. He just likes to get people out of tight spots.
- Forgiving. He doesn't hold grudges because he knows they hold people back, and keep them living in the past. If he knows a person is genuinely sorry, he isn't going to force them to grovel.
OVERALL PERSONALITY :
- Opinionated: Campbell calls it like he sees it, with no permission or questions asked. If he has an opinion about something, he'll voice it. He just needs people to know where he's coming from, no matter if they care or not.
- Inspired: He's constantly looking around the world with this, just, amazed expression. So many things spark his inspiration. Most people don't understand how a crack in the sidewalk, or an old piece of faded graffiti can strike him as such a fantastic thing. Cam just enjoys the simplest of things in the biggest of ways.
- Curious: He'd be one of those people to hear a scary-sounding noise and go after it. He can't just accept not knowing what something is or how something works.
- Stubborn: He doesn't accept defeat with open arms. His first thought is to push the topic in a direction in which his point will be the only one that is plausible. It doesn't always end up going so well for Cam, but he will stand there for hours proving himself right.
- Headstrong: Campbell does a lot of things without thinking. He's pushed a lot of girls away by telling them he likes them too soon, or just trying to take things to the next level. It sometimes comes off as impatience, which is probably factored in there somewhere. He just likes to make the most of moments before they're gone. Sometimes Cam just doesn't know when the right moment is.
- Decisive: He doesn't take long picking and choosing over things. He makes a decision and goes with it. Often, his decisions aren't well, thought-out, which is also something that makes him more head-strong than others. He thinks, but he doesn't think enough at times.
- Vague: Cam gets so excited about things sometimes, that he doesn't slow down to tell you specifics. He'll invite you somewhere with no information on when, or what's happening. He tries to cut to the chase, but ends up cutting too much to get to the chase.
- Over-sensitive: He doesn't take critique very well. Cam thinks so positively about the things he does, that when someone even tells him how to improve it, he gets offended. He's never been one to totally flip-out, but he definitely gets a bit pouty when his feelings get hurt.
- Competitive: He gets competitive mostly over things like debates and grades in school. He doesn't like being shown up in the area of smarts. He knows he can't be the smartest there is, but if his grade is anymore than two points below yours, he'll probably get a bit jealous.
- Forgetful: In Campbell's rush through life, he can tend to leave a few thoughts behind. People have to tell him things over and over. Sometimes, he just writes everything on his arm that he needs to remember. His arm can get pretty full by the end of the day.
- Intelligent: School is one of his main priorities. He knows that education is of high importance in this country, and he wants to prove he can get one and get a great one, at that. He's got his high school diploma hung up back home in his room. It just prides him to know he can make it in a country he's not native to.
SUBJECTS :
- Fine Art: Photography is his first love, always will be. He saved up all through junior high for his first nice camera, and has used it to capture some of the world's greatest moments (in his eyes).
- Creative Writing: Cam's imagination has caught numerous teachers' eyes. He's great at bringing things to life by way of written word.
- Law: A lot of people tell him he should be a lawyer. He has an argument for everything, and usually they're pretty buy-able.

OVERALL HISTORY :
Campbell was born very close to the U.S. border, in Piedras Negras, Mexico. His family was one of the more fortunate, and wasn't living in the street, but their small, two-room home didn't fit the growing family. When Cam was only 4 years old, they attempted to cross the border. They would have to make two more attempts over the next four years to actually get into the United States without being escorted back across the border.
Unfortunately the whole family didn't make it across. His grandparents gave up their efforts to get to the United States after the first try. Once Campbell and his parents were safely in the country, though, it was all they wanted to do.
It turned out that things didn't improve as quickly as they'd hoped, living in the U.S of A. Their two-room apartment was hardly any better than the home they'd left behind. The crime-rate was lower, though, and water was cleaner. After years of building themselves up in the states, though, they were able to move into a nice home. Campbell's father actually became a supervisor of a chain of local grocery stores.
Campbell, all the while was working to go to college. Get that American dream that so many people thought that illegal immigrants didn't deserve. His parents were the proudest (and loudest) one's in the audience the day he got his high school diploma. To stay closer to his family, he accepted the small scholarship offer from Winchester.
He came to the registration office with all his bags and nervously signed up for a dorm. To him, this whole experience is the most amazing thing to happen to him. And he's not going to let anyone ruin it for him.
