NICKNAMES : not really; he's always responded equally to both his first or his last name. he probably would not respond to a petname, and if he did, it would be using his fist to bust someone's teeth in. js.

ETHNICITY : he's american; his mother was german, however, and he is fluent in the language and attached to the culture.
RELIGION : vaguely lutheran.
SEXUALITY : bi-sexual bordering on pansexual; not many people catch his eye, but when they do, it's very rarely just a skin-deep attraction.
STATUS : it's complicated.

LEO DISLIKES :
- his father.
- the fact that he just can't break the habit of settling issues with his fists.
- television.
- cliques & gossip & people's natural inclination to judge others without fully understanding them.
- ignorance.
- his reputation: he has a love&hate relationship with the "street cred" that he's had since high school. he doesn't particularly enjoy knowing there are people who are afraid of him.
- academics: he's not stupid, but he struggles with some subjects and gets frustrated when he can't get something. the fact that he needs a tutor for his math classes and his sciences is something he's ashamed to admit.
- parties & alcohol: he goes because his friends (most of whom are on academic probation, ect) go, but he isn't into the scene.
LEO LIKES :
- his reputation: despite the awkward discomfort of walking to class and seeing the biochemistry majors flinch out of his way, leo likes to be alone, and his reputation isolates him enough that he's constantly in a comfortable state of detachment.
- thinking/philosophy: leo's a man of few words - he doesn't open his mouth much, but when he does, everything he says has a musing, well-thought quality. he spends hours smoking cigarettes and staring out windows, lost in thought, and he thinks about big lonely things and the nature of the everything.
- tattoos & body art: if all else fails, leo knows he has a future in the tattooing industry; he's a good artist and his brother runs a tattoo parlor. he designed his own tattoos and even inked a few of them.
- listening: leo's the best listener in the world. he might not have much commentary on what you're saying, but he'll listen to you, honestly and sincerely, for just about as long as you can keep talking.
- animals.

- people who practice what they preach and don't always judge a book by its cover.
GOALS :
- graduation.
- to get an honest job, make an honest living.

FEARS :
- ending up just like dad.
- that the state of the world is only going to get worse.
- life after death. the thought of existence as perpetually unending depresses the hell out of him.
SECRETS :
- he's had to sink to some pretty unsavory depths to afford school.
- he beat a man nearly to death and then ran away in a panic when he was in high school. the man was on life support for two months.
WEAKNESS :
- people who need him: he's a softy when it comes to people (or animals) in need. it will probably be his downfall.
- communicating: he's anything but vacant-headed, but leo seems to function on a plane of reality that's just... a little bit skewed from everyone else's, and this can make communicating his feelings to people difficult. especially since he doesn't really talk. he lets his actions speak for him; this is why he still gets in so many fights.
STRENGTHS :
- taking care of people: it might not look like it, but leo is boss at taking care of people when they need it. he's the kind of person who will take home wounded animals (or people, for that matter - it's happened before) and nurse them back to health whether the patient likes it or not.
- fighting: he's been doing it all his life, he knows how to throw a punch.
OVERALL PERSONALITY :
- patient & calm: while he does have his infamous and explosive fits of temper and violence, they truly are an anomaly when considering the fact that the rest of leo's personality is almost surreally calm. he's infinitely patient, soft spoken, and until he reaches that dangerous tipping point, he is very difficult to rile up. even when he does start throwing punches, he does it in a calculated, calm manner. most likely if leo hadn't been born and raised in an environment where violence was dismissible commonplace, he wouldn't be that way at all. he's like a lake. placid, calm, and then a giant lake monster rises out and devours you when you bother the waters too much.
- unforgiving: and this is where the more destructive of leo's two very different natures comes in. if he feels threatened - truly, which isn't particularly common, since there aren't many people who can intimidate leo or get under his skin enough to really piss him off - he'll settle it the only way he knows how. things that set him off: when people insult his mother, when people hurt those he cares about, when people try to physically intimidate him, stupid stupid dangerous drunks. he's not, however, going to start beating the shit out of someone for petty insults. he's not a psycho.
- intimidating: so, he has a reputation. on top of this, he's quiet, he's tall, he dresses in base ball caps twisted to the back, baggy jeans, wife beaters, he's got a hard, probing gaze and his generic facial expression is thoughtfully detached. he's not a very approachable person, and although he's not at all unfriendly, people generally try to avoid really meeting him or talking to him. because he's kind of a scary fucker, and it doesn't help that once you get him started on a real conversation, he gets intense and talks about serious, deep shit. it's a lot.
- protective: he's sort of like a mama bear. big, terrifying, dangerous, and when you mess with her cubs she goes psycho and mauls you. leo is not so very different. to the people he decides he's devoted to, he is incredibly protective. he can be quite the quirky knight in shining armor for people who need help, because his natural instinct is simply to protect those who can't really do it themselves. his protective nature can, at times get a little overwhelming, and sometimes he needs to be reminded to back off and chill out, everything's fine.
- loyal: once a friend, always a friend. leo makes decisions about how he feels about people - simple, sometimes abrupt and absolutely unshakable. if he decides he loves you, there is virtually nothing you can do to change his mind. he's been in a few pretty terrible relationships because of this - it's an easy trait to take advantage of - but he also never seems to fully give himself to people, so he keeps an inner well of strength to endure some of the dysfunctional relationships he finds himself in. to leo, it's black and white.
- secretive: leo doesn't really share a lot of himself with other people - even the people he loves most in the world. part of it is that he just doesn't really talk or open up that much. he's an excellent listener, a superb shoulder to cry on, and on certain topics that are pointed outward, he can be a good conversationist, but once the focus starts turning inward on himself, he clams up.
- blunt & honest: he doesn't beat around the bush, ever. he says what's on his mind, and he never lies. if he doesn't want to tell you something, he simply won't - he will never concoct a lie to distract you from whatever secret truth he's trying to hide. there is a certain subtle sincerity to everything he says, and although sometimes he can come off as being insensitive, he never says anything meaning to be cruel. he's just honest to a fault.
- headstrong & steadfast: leo is impossible to dissuade. you can't argue with him, reason with him, or threaten him once he's decided something. this most applies to unrequited love. he's not going to moon over you quietly - he is going to pursue you, in his own way, whether you like it or not, and until you start reciprocating you're just going to have to put up with it, 'cause he is not giving up.
- independent/loner: leo is the kind of person who needs a good few hours a day to himself. he hates loud noise, he hates feeling trapped and claustrophobic from too many people. he likes to hang around his apartment and read, go on walks with his headphones on at odd hours of the night, go to parties alone and merely people watch instead of actively participating. he doesn't need people the way that most kids his age need to. he gets no validation of self-worth from being in the spotlight. he likes helping people - he likes having people depend on him, but he doesn't need it; he is capable of being utterly independent.
- philosophical/odd: he's kind of a weird cookie, and this becomes evident the more you get to know him. he has a million odd idiosyncrasies and he tends to dismiss social norms and expectations to sort of do things his own way. he's a deeply thoughtful person, which accounts for his mellow personality - he thinks of heavy things, dark things, hopeless things, and sometimes reorienting himself to the pettier (but less depressing) brain waves of his peers is difficult for him.
- self-confident: leo is totally comfortable within his own skin. he has a fairly realistic vision of himself - he knows his strengths, he knows his flaws, and although he doesn't like them much, he doesn't hate himself in the least. he walks with the natural swag of a man who doesn't give ten shits what you think about him, because he knows who he is and that's good enough.

- psychology: why people do what they do; that's right up his alley. his professors have mixed feeling about him and they complain that he needs to think of the class less philosophically and more medically.
- history: he likes to be well rounded.

FATHER'S NAME : bart kenny.

OVERALL HISTORY :
leo's father joined the military right after high school and was stationed in berlin in his midtwenties. there he would meet his future wife and leo's mother, debra. they fell in love; bart, at this point in his life, was optimistic, fun loving and friendly, and debra was a wild, free-spirited girl who was quick to laugh. they had something of a turbulent relationship - there were fights and affairs - but they always managed to make up, and within a few years of bart's assignment they had married.
both leo and his brother were born in germany within a few years of their parents' marriage; leo didn't step foot on american soil until his father was stationed back home when he was four. this is around the time things really began to fall apart.
debra did not like leaving her homeland. she did not acclimate well in the US, and her relationship with her husband began to deteriorate fast. leo was six when she finally left. it became apparent that without his wife, bart was not a very functional human being. he turned to drink, he was dismissed from the army, and he had difficult holding down a steady job. he was a mean drunk who terrorized his sons; leo has sharp memories of hiding under his bed with his hands over his ears, listening to his brother wail and his father rage. he has memories of being the one to take beatings. his brother dropped out of high school to work. they lived on the wrong side of town and leo grew up in a rough neighborhood.
but he endured. when he was young he bonded closely to his brother; as they grew older, dominic turned out to be a bit too much like his father. leo sported bruises from brother and father, but dominic still protected him and worked for him and wanted him to go to college, and so despite a certain dysfunctional quality to their relationship as siblings, he still feels deep love and devotion for his brother.
his father he feels little for; pity, maybe. he is waiting for the man to die so he can bury him respectfully and never think of him again.
