As much as she had loved her roommate, Ana needed some space from her and her obsession with video games. Well, the video games and the fact that they got along too well so they would sit there and talk, giggle, and never get anything done. So while Annabel was still sleeping, Ana packed up some schoolwork and decided to take a walk. She was looking for somewhere somewhat calm and quiet, so that's what brought her to where she was right now. As her dark brown eyes scanned over the park, she knew this was where she could relax and maybe get some work done.
She honestly doubted it though as she looked over at the playground. Sure it was crawling with children but it still looked like so much fun. She knew that she'd instantly get odd looks from not only the parents, but the children there too. If she had a friend with her she would be more willing but sadly today she was alone. Sighing, she tore her eyes away from the playground and headed towards the lake with a smile. The smile started to fade as she looked at all of the benches lining the lake. Of course, all of the benches were taken by big families of kids wanting to feed the ducks and couples making out across the entire bench.
After a few minutes of walking, she finally found a promising looking place to sit. Sure it wasn't completely empty, but it worked. Hopefully the blonde haired kid wouldn't mind. He seemed friendly enough, she reasoned with herself as she quietly cleared her throat and sat down beside him. Looking up at him, she smiled a friendly smile and decided to be polite, "hi there. I'm sorry I hope I'm not intruding, but do you mind if I sit here?"

Vinny loved the sunshine, it meant the shadows had less places to hide and he was safe. Safe warm and happy. Just the way he liked it. Pulling on some shorts and his favourite shirt, Vinny stumbled out of his dorm, popping his medication into his mouth before skipping out into the hot weather. It was coming tot he end of summer and he knew this was going to be one of the few chances he had in the proper warmth for a while so he'd have to make the most of it.
He chuckled to himself as the fish swam past, ticking one under it's fin before it joined the shoal. Tripping over his own feet, Vinny made his way to the park managing to get there with only one scraped knee and a grazed finger. Not too bad, at least there was no blood. Grinning like a Cheshire cat, Vinny scrambled up a tree, standing on one of the tallest branches. He was a pirate, on look out from his ship, making sure it was safe from danger before landing and rowing to shore. He chuckled to himself as a bird came and landed next to him. She seemed inquisitive and hopped lightly onto Vinny's shoulder, nuzzling her beak against his neck as he explained that there were savages trying to capture them. The bird looked positively appalled at the thought of savages and fluffed up her feathers. Vinny smiled and petted her head, telling her that he would keep the ship safe.
Jumping down from the tree, Vinny picked up a stick and began sword fighting, taking out eight or nine thousand savages at once! He was a hero, they'd crown him king for sure. Tripping over his feet again he settled himself down on a bench to catch his breath, dropping his sword down next to him he dusted the grass from his knees and closed his eyes. Counting slowly to one hundred.
ninety-eight, ninety-nine... but there was suddenly a voice next to him. He looked up quickly just as a girl sat down next to him. Ewwww a girl! How disgusting. He frowned a little as she asked if she could sit there. Maybe she was a savage! Come to trick him! No, that couldn't be right, she had gills, just like normal girls did. Maybe she was lost. He shuffled up the bench a little so she could sit down, knocking his long forgotten sword on the floor.
You're already sitting. he pointed out, smiling at her. She was pretty, as far as girls went. Nice long red hair, stripes - unusual, but not uncommon. And a curled tail - meant she was musical. Rufio had the same, though his was brown and messy, like a dog. Hers was smooth like a tiger or a lion. Cocking his head to one side slightly he stuck his hand out for her to shake. I'm Vinny and I'm discovering a new island. Who are you?

As she got a closer look at the boy she was sitting next to, that's what she realized he was: a boy. His face had a child like innocence, and she liked that about him. He seemed like fun. She giggled as he pointed out that she was already sitting and she nodded as she responded, "why yes I am. You're absolutely right!"
At first he seemed kind of disgusted by her presence as she realized he had scooted away from her and she shifted her weight as she looked above her to see the large tree that hung over the water. It was beautiful and looked fun to climb, but horrible to get down from. Her stomach turned at the thought of being so high up and she shivered some before looking back to him with a wide, friendly smile. She almost mirrored his childlike features as she smiled even wider. She could have fun with this. After all, it'd be great acting practice. Although part of her feared that this guy wasn't acting, but either way she wouldn't let it worry her or bother her. She decided to have fun with it.
"You have traveled a very long way, sir!" she said as she stood and kicked off her heels and allowed her bare feet to sink into the grass and the dirt. She was ready to get down to business as she extended her arm to him. "The name's Anastasia and I live on this fantastic island. It is my greatest pleasure to meet you on this fine day, Sir Vinny."
Smiling to him, she turned to look at the lake before back to him, furrowing her eyebrows, "did you travel on that majestic ship, right here?" she asked as she pointed to the ship and skipped towards it, running her fingertips along the bark as she looked up at the limbs, turning back at him amazed and smiling, "she's beauutiful."

Vinny almost fell off the bench in surprise, You can see it too?! he squealed, shaking her hand almost too vigorously as he stood up on the bench a huge grin on his face. I'm a captain, he corrected, jumping off the bench and taking his sword once more. He waved it around a little, pointing to some bushes in the distance. There's savages living there, they eat humans for breakfast and they have large pointy teeth that can rip your arm off in a second and they have these long tails that can tie you in knots and really big smelly feet, he said this all very quickly.
Watching the girl as she examined his ship he smiled, proud of his big boat. I did, I did. It's a pirate ship, but we're nice pirates. I promise. The King of England tried to capture us and keep us prisoners. But we escaped and came here. he explained, picking up another stick and handing it to the girl.
Here, this is your sword. You have to keep it with you all the time. Just in case, he grinned, taking off down the path as fast as he could before stopping suddenly in the middle of the path. Come on! I can't defeat the savages all on my own!

Ana was definitely feeding off of the boy's enthusiasm of his adventure. It was refreshing, being able to let go and just have fun. Sure, it was imaginary, but it was fun nonetheless. She couldn't recall the last time she'd had this much fun. It probably had to have been back when she was in San Francisco. Now that theater class was fun. Everyone was just so willing to let go of the ordinary and take on the role of something extraordinary. It was a great escape from her brutal reality there. She'd hoped that her classes here would have the same effect, but it was too soon to tell. Everyone needed to get out of their comfort zone before they could fully let go.
Strangely enough, she had instantly felt comfortable around Vinny. Perhaps it was his child-like naive view of the world she'd seen thus far, but it was nice.
She snapped out of her thoughts instantly as the boy explained his journey at a million miles a minute. It was almost hard to keep up, but she managed. Dropping her jaw in shock, she took both of her hands and placed them on her cheeks. The classic 'Home Alone' pose as she exclaimed, "oh no! Not the savages again! They ate my family once before!" It was the first thing that came to her mind. It wasn't the best she could've done, but she was out of practice in improv.
Turning back to the tree, then to him. Ah, he was the captain of this mighty ship. "I like pirates," she said as she smiled while batting her eyelashes innocently, "even the mean ones, they are always kind to me. It shows that they all have a good side to them and one day everyone will see that, I know it!" listening as he continued his story she said, "how dare him. I'm glad you guys broke free, I don't know how I'd handle the savages all alone." Her eyes expressed joy as her bottom lip puffed out into a slight pout.
Grasping onto the stick like her life depended on it, she stood up straight and nodded to him before letting out a giggle, "yes sir!" she said as she began to sneak up to the bush. Hiding behind tree trunks before getting on all fours to crawl up to it. Looking behind her, she watched Vinny follow and she stopped. As he passed her, she whispered to him, "I'll allow you to take the lead, captain. Lets kill some savages!"

Vinny gasped as he listened to her story, They ate you family? That's horrible! he exclaimed hugging her around the middle. He held the girl close for a moment, not even able to comprehend not having parents. That would be worse than...than...he didn't even know what it would be worse than.
I don't know what I'd do without my family, he said after a moment, scrunching up his face. He didn't like to think of what would happen if they weren't around. Especially my puppy...he's my best friend in the whole world. I miss him because I'm not allowed him in my bedroom so he has to stay with mom and dad. he explained, letting the girl go and stumbling off to the side.
In a second his mood changed back to how it had been before, the grin was back on his face as if the conversation about lost family had never happened. Okay! he shouted, taking the lead and crawling on his hands and knees through a few of the taller bushes. Wriggling out of the other side he got to his feet and frowned.
They've run off! he said, crossing his arms over his chest, They must have known we were coming, he grinned, helping the girl back onto her feet. He brushed the mud off his knees before looking around, tongue sticking out a little as he concentrated.
We could try and find their camp! he said suddenly, pulling out a perfectly flat rock from his pocket. This is my compass, it points to savages, he explained walking over to her so she could take a look. They live all over the place, you just have to know where to look for them.
