The lake was one of the top tourist destinations, it was bright, spacious, the day boats came in, the beaches were white and the water always seemed to be warm. Even in the dead of winter. It was the perfect place, if Rufio's opinion to sit and watch the sun rise and set.
Which was where he was there, for the second time that day, ten o'clock sharp to wait until the sun set. He had cycled there, of course, and taken in the sights of Las Vegas as he went. It was a beautiful city, even if it hid some very dark secrets.
Laying down on the beach, he watched the lake lapping slightly at the shore as the last of the boats came into the harbor. Rufio smiled at the people on deck, getting ready to moor up and go home. A couple of rowing boats went past after it, he waved to the people who waved back, they looked exhausted but very happy. Rufio has always wanted to go rowing on the lake, but no one dared to come with him. They were busy with their parties and their hooking up to notice the beauty of the place they lived. Which was a shame, but Rufio didn't hold it against them
With a sigh he leant back once more, pulling out his phone he send a message to the one person he knew would appreciate the view. Olivia. He smiled as he sent her a short message telling her where to meet him. He added that it was urgent, there was gossip. If the sunset wouldn't get her out the thought of gossip would. Not that he actually had any. But she didn't know that.

Life had become so boring for the lone college student. There she sat, alone in her what was supposed to be a shared room with a girl named Sophia. Nowadays she felt she was in a single room, though. Aside from random people passing in and out of her dorm for a few hours throughout the day, most of those people being from the college chat room, she would sit here alone. At the moment she was sitting on her bed, cross legged as usual, working on her marine biology work while her thoughts whirled around about this class. She had officially not heard from Ethan in a week aside from when he's teaching her in the lecture hall. Every time she'd try to communicate after class though, he'd conveniently be busy and have to step out right when the class ended.
Her thoughts, this time, were interrupted by the sound of her phone vibrating on the night stand and the single beep echo through the empty room. Reaching over for it anxiously, she thought Ethan's ears must have been burning. A disappointed frown was displayed on her face when she saw it wasn't Ethan, but her eyes did light up as she saw Rufio's name. He was one of her longest friends here at the college, almost as long as she'd been friends with Tico. Occasionally they'd spark up but most of the time they'd just chill and relax, mostly outdoors because that was both of their favorite place to be. She was already off of her bed and looking into her closet for something to put on that was acceptable enough for the lake at this time of night. She knew Rufio was there to watch the sunset, he did it quite often. It was an honor that he had invited her today, she smiled at the thought.
She hadn't even read the entire text, that he had gossip, until she was walking out the door while she was rereading where he was to make sure she didn't go to the wrong place. Shaking her head, she laughed as she text him back letting him know she'd be there as she walked down the hall of the dormitory. Rufio was the most non-drama, non-gossiping guy she knew. One of her favorite things about him true story. She knew he was just trying to get her over there. Silly boy, she thought to herself as she climbed into her Scion xB and headed to the lake. It took her about five minutes to get there, staring up at the sun through her Ray Bans, she knew she hadn't missed much. He'd only been there for about ten minutes top.
Locking her car, she headed down to the lake's shore and sure enough. Rufio sat where he normally sat, his bike not even five feet away. Walking closer, she watched all of the row boats go back into the harbor just as he was. As she sat beside him, she smiled up at him.
"Hey," she said as she brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. Her chin resting on her knees as she raised her eyebrows to look up at him with a laugh. "What's the gossip?" she asked, playing along. Although she knew damn well there was no gossip. Who knew, though. He may surprise her with actual gossip.

Rufio chuckled lightly at the reply, tucking his phone neatly in his pocket and crossing his legs. He was busy making a daisy-chain when she arrived. He had heard her car a mile off. He shook his head in mock-disappointment as she parked up and got out of the vehicle. I think you just killed three polar bears with that journey, he smirked, shuffling a little closer to his bike so she would have a better view.
He smiled softly when she asked for the gossip, well there was...something. Biting his bottom lip he un-crossed his legs and brought his knees up to his chest. He smiled at her, pausing to look up at the sun as it began dipping behind the trees. Should he tell her about Micah? Or would that be better off a secret. He didn't want the other boy finding out. That would be mortifying. He hummed for a moment, crossing his feet over each other and dipping his fingers into the dusty beach.
Okay...but you have to promise on like...your car engine - which I know you can't live without - that you won't tell a single soul, or I'll feed you to my ferret, he said with a smile, burring his face in his hands, already feeling a little blush of embarrassment.
So I think I might...like someone.

By now, Olivia was used to Ru taunting her about her Scion. No matter how many times she'd had to defend herself, she once again had to explain with a laugh, "it gets 32 mpg so why don't you tell me just how many I killed, Mr. Environmentalist." Using her charming smile after she said it, she knew he wouldn't take it seriously. Everyone who was friends with her knew that she was definitely a sarcastic soul.
As Ru moved closer to his bike, she followed and scooted over to get an even better view of the lake. With a relaxed sigh, she crossed her legs and leaned forward. Her elbows rested on her thighs as her eyes scanned over the entire scenery. It was so beautiful. Closest thing she could get to the sunset over the beach in San Diego. She missed it so much there. Sure the lake was gorgeous, but it never would compare to not only the beauty but the relaxing sound of the waves crashing onto the beach while sinking her toes into the warm sand.
Snapping herself out of her trance, she looked over at Ru as he said she'd have to promise on her car engine about what he was about to tell her. It took all of her will power for her jaw to not drop down to the ground. What was he going to tell her? He literally never had gossip. Ever. Taken aback, she sat there with a pokerface and raised an eyebrow. A nervous laugh escaped as she questionably responded, "I promise....?"
She wanted to jump up and point at him, calling him out as he blushed. She already new what was going on and her look of confusion she was trying to hide was bursting at the seams. Her boy had found a crush! It was about time, she thought. Instead, she contained herself and waited for him to say it himself and when he did, she smiled as wide as she could and elbowed him in the side gently, playfully. "Ohhh yeah? And who's the lucky gal? Or dude, not too sure with you anymore," she asked with yet another friendly laugh. Waiting patiently for him to tell her who.

Rufio grinned and shook his head, the comment about the car always made him smile. He had tried on many occasion to get her to sell it and buy a bike - Vegas wasn't that big - but she would laugh and pet his shoulder. Which her polite way of saying 'not a chance in hell.' He didn't mind, not really. As long as he stuck to his guns about the whole 'eco-freak' thing, everyone else could do whatever they wanted.
When he finally admitted he had a crush - ugh, what a terrible word - he couldn't help but smirk at her reaction. Just as he imagined. She was so predictable. With a sigh he flopped down onto his back, looking up at the stars. Was he really about to say this out loud? Rufio never said anything like this...to anyone. But it was Olivia...and she had promised. He bit down on his lip and maneuvered himself so his head was in her lap, looking out at the lake. It's a guy, he mumbled, feeling a blush grow again, no matter how hard he tried to keep it down.
It's... Oh for god sake Rufio, say it. It's Micah. Phew, what a weight off his shoulders. Even if his face was almost the colour of the tomatoes he grew in his garden. Pulling his hair over his right shoulder he sighed and began tracing pictures in the sand with his finger.
But don't get too excited...I know he doesn't like me back.

Was Ru actually fidgeting over someone? Olivia thought to herself, feeling amused at the whole situation. Sure, she was happy that Ru had finally found someone worth crushing on. She'd been waiting a long time for him to actually find someone, too. It was just that she never expected him to act this way. She figured he'd be more.. Confident, and laid back about it. Not giggly and blushing everywhere. It was cute, though. She was glad he was happy, or at least he seemed so.
When he rested his head in her lap, she began to automatically start playing with his dreads. It was normal of her to play with not only his hair, but any guy who laid their head in her laps' hair. It was a habit of hers, she loved playing with hair almost as much as she loved with a guy played with hers. A soft laugh escaped her lips as she said to him, "spit it out already," just before he said Micah.
That definitely threw her off. Wasn't that the mexican kid who'd been lurking around on the chat off and on for a while now? She'd never talked to him. Never really wanted to, either. He seemed nice and all but he just didn't stick out to her like a few people in the college chat had. Now maybe she'd have to take the time to get to know him. Smiling a little wider, she only had one thing to say about his little crush, "awww."
Once he had said for her to not get her hopes up, she frowned. That wasn't fair, Ru was such a great guy. Shaking her head, she looked down at him and smiled. "Pfft, how could he not like you back? You're amazing Ru."

Rufio nearly laughed out loud when she said he was amazing. Shaking his head he turned to he could look at her, his head still in her lap. You have to say that, you're my friend, he chuckled, poking her lightly in the stomach.
Smiling he turned back just as the sun fully dipped behind the trees. The sky turning from orange to purple to dark blue. Sitting up he reached for his bag bu his bike and pulled out four long candles. Sticking them into the sand he made sure they were secure before pulling out a box of matches and lighting them all. Making sure they weren't plunged into darkness in the next few moments.
He watched them flicker for a moment before laying back in Olivia's lap. He likes girls...at least, I think he does. I've never seen him with another guy. He met up with that professor...Naomi? I dunno...I think he likes her. Then he went out with Anna - and I know she kinda likes him...and right now he's with that Lacey Lopez. Rufio smiled and shrugged his shoulders, nudging Olivia's leg by accident as he did. But he didn't seem to notice, or care.
I don't mind though...as long as he's my friend. he said, chuckling slightly as he re-drew some of his finger pictures in the sand. But you promised not to tell him, so you're not allowed to. I know what you're like. I don't want him finding out and freaking out. he warned, turning to face Olivia again. I'd rather have him as a friend than nothing at all.

Continuing to play with Ru's hair, Olivia laughed and squeeked gently, her stomach slightly rolling in defense as he poked her. "Hon, if you weren't amazing, I would tell you because you're my friend. I wouldn't lie to you," she stated in a matter of fact tone.
As he stuck the candles into the ground, she then stared up at the sky as the stars began to form. Her eyes scanned around the entire sky and she remembered her father. He'd always take her up to the top of the hills where there were no city lights and lift her up onto the roof of the SUV he had, then he'd lay beside her and teach her all of the constellations in the sky. Sadly so much time had passed that, by now, she'd forgotten most of them. There were still a handful that she could pick out in the night sky, and she smiled a little wider to herself each time she did.
Seeing the candle light flicker, she turned her attention back down to Ru, watching the flames dance in the candles beside them and sighed, feeling relaxed. She shook her head and locked her jaw as she now looked out to the water, the lights flickering across it too now as she listened to Ru talk about this Micah. "Why would you even bother being his friend? Sounds like yet another heartless asshole to me. But are you sure he doesn't know you like him?"
Sighing angrily as Ru told her she couldn't do anything, she pulled her hands back and rested them behind her, putting her weight on them as she shook her head. "You know how I am, Ru.. Your secret is safe with me, but that fucker's gonna get it," she said ending it with a laugh that had a hint of both bitchiness and sarcasticness. Sadly, knowing how Ru was, he'd stop a fight between the two before it even started. It didn't mean she couldn't have a little fun with Micah without Ru's secret gettng out. She was good at that.
