BENJI'S LIKES :

• The Stars - Benji loves astrology, and anything to do with the stars or space. He's a complete nerd and can probably recite most of Star Wars – though he'll never reveal it. He adores looking at different constellations and although Orion is obviously his favourite he does like them all. He always guesses his middle name was the cause of the interest and he's very glad of that fact. He's always the romantic when he's lying on the grass looking up at the night sky.
  
• New People - Maybe because he likes to influence people, or maybe he just wants a new toy to play with, Benji has always liked meeting new people. He's very chatty when he wants to be and is always interested in finding out about people – if only to spread rumours about them later.
  
• The Smell Of Old Books -Who doesn't like the smell of the old slightly faded pages? Benji used to love sitting in the library when he was younger and read for hours. Just taking in the atmosphere and the comforting silence. It isn't just the books he likes, it's the whole experience.
  
• Writing - Benji always found that he had an outlet when he began to write. Most of it turned into meaningless drabble, but while in care he wrote and illustrated a few children's books for the younger kids. Something to remember him by, if he ever left. Not that he really cares of they remember him – or so he likes to tell himself. He tends to write less now, just because he doesn't have the time or the imagination. The world has lost the magic it used to have and he doesn't care for it as much now.
  
• Music - Benji is a very big music fan. Although he can't actually play anything - but he has tried the guitar and the bass on several occasions. The bands he listens too are a complete mix match – from Mindless Self Indulgence, to All Time Low to Bring me the Horizon to Patrick Wolf. He's music taste is all over the place, but he's trying to reel it in a little more – mostly because his iPod keeps becoming full and he can't afford a bigger one.
  
• Cups Of Hot Tea - On cold winter nights and early in the morning, Benji always has a cup of tea in his hands to keep him warm and wake him up. People think it's strange and weirdly British of him. But he doesn't care, as long as he can have a cup of tea whenever he needs one he is a happy boy – a biscuit wouldn't go amiss though.
  
• Impressionable Minds - Much like Lord Henry in The Picture of Dorian Gray – Benji likes to influence people to be exactly like him. He needs his own little protégé but doesn't have the time. Besides, who would he ask? A shy little kid – they'd be scared off at the first hurdle. He just liked playing with people, and doesn't really care too much if they get hurt in the process.
  
• Going Out - Like any other teenager, Benji loves getting out of the house and 'letting his hair down'. But with his curfew he can't stay out past ten, which is the worst. He's learnt how to sneak out of the house and stay out all night, though, and always makes it back in time before someone catches him. Though he's lately been taking more risks and has had a few near misses. Not something he really wants to get involved in.
  

BENJI'S DISLIKES :

• The Sun - Mostly because it's awful trying to cool down. Benji would much rather be cuddling under a blanket with snow outside than sweating it out in the summer sun. Besides, he had a perfect pale complexion. Burning like a lobster would not be a good look for him – nor would a tan. And slapping on tonnes of sun cream is not Benji's idea of heaven.
  
• People Like Himself - Benji is as arrogant as the day is long so when he finds someone like himself he is prone to just punching them in the face. He doesn't like people who copy him – though he can see why they would – and he'd rather be the center of attention than have to share it with someone else.
  
• People Who Assume He Will Like Them - The worst kind of people are those who just assume Benji will be their best friend – or more. No. Just no. Chances are Benji will despise you until you prove that you're worth his time and energy. There is no point in him wasting his effort on someone he just doesn't want to spend time with.
  
• Not Having Money - Benji grew up with an average amount of money. Though never going on holiday with his father - he generally got that he wanted when he was young. Earning a lot of money growing up he hates the fact it has been taken away from him. He always worries that he won't have enough for the future and he is desperately searching for a job to top up his savings.
  
• Being Alone - Being surrounded by people all his life, Benji can't imagine what life would be like without someone around him - even if it's just for the night. He is in the market for a room-mate for when he leaves school. He hopes that there will always be people around him because when he's on his own he begins to think about life - and that's never a good sign.
  
• Old People - Just for the fact they're so slow and grumpy. They always go on about the 'good old days' when Benji couldn't give a monkeys. He appreciates the help they gave in the war, and sort of understands why they're grumpy. But he doesn't care about their moaning and thinks that he'd rather spend money on himself than be taxed to help them.
  
• Arguments He Can't Win - Like anyone else he hates realising half way through an argument that he's on the wrong side. But no matter what he'll continue arguing until he convinces the other person that he is actually right and they are wrong. He knows that it's being obnoxious, but as long as he can think he's always right, he's happy.
  
• Nerds - Can't they just dumb down a little? Give Benji a chance to shine in class? Apparently not. They're always way ahead of him, taking the spot light, while Benji is sat with his feet on the table not bothering to pay attention. He always blames the nerds for his poor grades - if they weren't so good he wouldn't be so bad. But something about them is sort of...cute. Urgh.
  

GOALS :

• To Be Famous…For Something: Benji has always had some far-fetched dream to become famous. He doesn't care what for, or what he has to do to get there. He just wants to be at the top - amongst the stars where he belongs.
  
• To Actually Pass His Exams: This is a big one for him, he doesn't want this one to get out and he certainly won't admit it to anyone else. He's a smart boy – when he puts his mind to it – and he knows it. He wants to do well and make something of himself, but his bad boy reputation is somewhere in the middle, preventing him from doing anything about it. At the moment he cares too much about his image.
  
• To Become A Lawyer Or A Social Worker: He's not sure why those jobs appeal to him so much, but they just do. He's always trying to sneakily pass the right exams and do the right work on time, but with Percy wanting to be an actor, Benji's prepared to throw this one away so he can help the other boy. Sure it would be nice to do one of them, but if he can't, he can't.
  
• To Sky Dive: Just a random impulse thought of him. The adrenalin, adventure and danger are the things that are pushing him to try it. But he's a little scared of not getting out alive. So many this is one to save for a later time. He doesn't want to miss out on life because he couldn't deploy his parachute.

• Sports: Despite his tall stature - Benji has no interest in sports. He doesn't enjoy strenuous exercise and just thinks it's a waste of his time. He just stops eating to stay thin - no exercise needed. Perfect, he looks good and doesn't get sweaty and gross. It seems like the perfect plan, right?
  
• Hot Tempered: Benji is quick to get angry when things don't go his way. He's likely to get a little violent when he gets angry - and his temper has got him into a lot of trouble. He just doesn't know when to stop. He can't stop himself and he knows part of him loves the contact of punching someone in the stomach.
  

STRENGTHS :

• Being Manipulative: Using his charm and devilish good-looks (ha!) He's always up for manipulating someone to do what he wants them too - and is an expert at not feeling any guilt from it. He likes to see how far he can push people before they snap, and when they do he just sits back and watches. Amused by the reactions they give - mostly with tears. He can't help but enjoy himself when he manipulates people and gets a bit of a kick out of it.
  
• Adventurous: Whether it be visiting new places or climbing something a little too high, Benji has always been adventurous. Daring to go places most wouldn't and laughing in the face of danger. He's broken a few bones in his time and just puts it down to a slippery surface – not the fact he's pretty careless when his blood is pumping.
  

OVERALL PERSONALITY :

• Smart: Many people underestimate the extent of Benji's mind, when in actuality, he is very insightful. He has a very clear perception of the things he deals with, especially when he's conning people. He, as many would say can turn his smart on or off and he uses that to his advantage. He doesn't rub his overshadowed intelligence in a person's face, not because he finds it wrong, but because people would know right away that he's messing with them and that he'll use what he knows and what he studies to his advantage. On many occasions, he's found himself reading psychology books, and such. That's also another thing people don't know about him. He reads up on a lot of things and plans for the future. So if something goes wrong, he knows how to get out of it. Apart of being smart, in Benji's way is that you have to have ulterior motives and all the possible scenarios in order to get out of something gone wrong. So you can say he's a logical thinking, and very rational when he turns his smart on. In actuality though, he always has his smart on, it's just that he uses stupidity to get what he wants. He knows what words like Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism and ambidextrous mean. He has an expansive dictionary
  
• Cunning: Benji is like a snake. He can slither around small corners, get himself out of things and still manage to get what he'd wanted to obtain. He can convince anyone of a falsehood he concocted from his head. He's highly deceptive without even trying at all. At this point, he doesn't do it by accident. More so he uses it as a weapon. You could call him a magician of deceit. He talks to people and gives them this illusion of getting what they need for them and ends up taking what he wants from them and explaining that he never promised them what they wanted. He's like an unread contract. If you don't carefully read between his lines, you won't see him turning you over, and he's use to being underestimated. Benji wasn't always cunning. He use to be truthful, until he found out better ways to get what he needed and being sneaky is his way of obtaining what he wants, when he wants. He found being truthful with a person always makes situations a lot more
  
• Con-man: Well, you didn't expect a person like Benji to be cunning and not be a conman, did you? He's a con-man through and through. You wouldn't know when to trust him, or when he's playing with your head. They say con-men have many personalities, but Benji is one of the few who don't change their persona to sell something to someone. In a way, he's subtle with his let down. He gives false hope, of something good, but ends up giving them something fake for a high price. In other words, he's cheap, and a cheat. He's constantly tricking people into buying things to benefit himself. It's all about him, is what it really comes out to be. That's basically why he's so confident in himself because in the past, many times he's gotten everything or mostly everything he's wanted. That's why it's so easy to approach someone and sell them whatever he's obtained.
  
• Aggressive: Don't get the wrong idea, he isn't some crazy fool, but he does tend to cause people injuries. He's like a six year old kid having a temper tantrum because they didn't get the lollypop their mom promised them. He's like a rich girl that was denied a car on their sixteenth birthday. As far as he knows, he's been aggressive since the day he was born. He's always lashing out at people and he doesn't even have to have a reason for calling them out about something he noticed. He doesn't like when things don't go his way, so that's probably where a lot of his aggression comes from towards people. He tries to calm it down with smashing things, but normally, it's towards people that he takes his aggression out on. His aggression could also come from the fact that he rarely sleeps and tends to stress out. Being a con-man puts him in the hot seat because there are always those people that do understand his intentions. If Benji were apart of a fight club, he'd probably be the most willing fighter; he'd fight everyday just for the heck of, simply because he likes the feel of his hand connecting with soft flesh. He doesn't have to have a reason, he's just very aggressive. He doesn't take steroids, he doesn't have roid rage; he just has this sense of himself being rough and intimidating and his aggression contributes to that
  
• Confident, Self-assured: He's like Miley Cyrus without the cameras. For such a young age, he has this strange sort of confidence. He feels that he can step on anyone's face and that he'll get away with. He also feels as if he's better than anyone and everyone who underestimates him and that he'll still come out unscathed. He has the carefree sort of stance, and the calm demeanor that only comes to his age not nearly as much as it should. Benji is crazy in his confidence and self assurance, if that makes sense. He knows what he does; he doesn't try to sugar coat his intentions by telling himself that he's trying to make life easier for others. He knows he's conning people. He knows he's pretty much evil and he let's people know that, even if he's made out to be a witch for it. He knows himself, he loves himself and if you think he's as half as obsessed with himself as he presents, you haven't seen anything yet. He's twice as worse as what you see. But, sometimes that's all just a show. He's self assured about himself on the outside, but on the inside, he's so confused. A lot of things about him conflict with others.
  
• Observant, Loud: You'd think that Benji would have the common decency to turn off at least these two personalities. He's smart, cunning and confident, but along with that he has to be observant and tell everyone about it. He studies just about everything, from the amount of times a person blinked while talking, to the color of a person's pants. Well, he isn't that observant, but he's a lot more observant than the next person. He takes in everything; he's like a human sponge, like when a baby is three or four and they hear a bad word for the first time and repeat it. He soaks it all up and throws it right back in your face and he isn't secretive about it. IF you're in an area with ten people around, he'll say in a very highly sarcastic loud voice, what he knows about you. It's his nature, but its way of having control over a situation. The way he see's it is that he has something that will hurt a person one way or another, so from that he can either bribe them or blab what he knows. It's all part of his persona.
  
• Hopeless Romantic: When Benji falls, he falls hard and he knows there is nothing he can do to stop himself. He hates being like this and always tries to avoid situations where it appears. He is always the one out buying flowers and chocolates and gifts to show off his partner. But sometimes he doesn't realise that it isn't all about the presents. He's willing to cuddle on the couch and generally ends up being pushed around. Just because he doesn't really want to upset the other person.
  
• Determined: When Benji sets his mind on something he will do it. No matter if he wants to or not. He never does anything half way and always intends to finish the job. No matter what it is. Although he isn't so bothered about homework, any large projects, research, whatever, he's on it. He hates it when people don't do a good job and yet, to keep up his reputation, he forces himself to do a bad job of something he could do easily.
  
• Guarded: Although his outlandish appearance may give you an idea of someone who is completely confident and self-assured, there's a large part of him that is a completely terrified little boy. He hates talking about his past and never brings it up unless completely necessary. He's always sure of something before he does it and although it may seem like he acts on impulse, each move is carefully planned out so no mistakes are made. That's why he never stays with one person for long.
  
• Realistic: Benji hates it when people sugar-coat bad news. He wants people to tell it to him straight, not dart around the subject. He's realistic with his goals (most of them) and never sets anything too above him because he knows that if he fails he will be negative for weeks. He hopes people are realistic with him when he talks to them, but he knows that some like to make everything sound better than it is.

OVERALL HISTORY :

Benji always supposed his downfall began before he was even born. When his mother fell pregnant for the second time, her first having been a still birth, the Flynn's became obsessed with the thought of having a child. One of their own, to finally drag up through the trials and tribulations of the real word. But the whole cliché of having a house with a white fence became very old and very boring, very quickly for Benji's father. He wanted a boy, unlike Benji's mother who wanted a girl. The two clashed over the subject, but they kept refusing to be told by the doctors, until one day, while Gregory was at work, Imogen went to the doctors to find out once and for all. Pale faced she returned home, only to have Gregory wave her appointment letter in her face. Their argument could be heard in the next street and when vases started to smash people began to worry. The baby was to be a girl. Much to the utter horror of Mr Flynn.


They began to fight, every night Gregory would come home from work and fly into a rage at the smallest things. The fact his sandwiches his wife had lovingly made for him had too much butter, or that the toilet roll at work wasn't the nice soft stuff but the cheap scratchy nonsense. When Imogen grew in size, Gregory would taunt her about her weight, grab her sensitive chest and tease her in the bedroom. She would move to the couch to sleep, where her husband would come down at 3am, on the dot, to watch the television. Imogen stopped leaving the house, she would try and sleep through the day while her husband was at work, so when he returned she had the energy to keep going. But pretty soon, her body started to break down. After a few more days of torture she was rushed to hospital by a neighbor who hadn't seen the woman for months. In the time Gregory was at work, his wife had died and he had gained a baby boy. Little did he know, until he returned home, that he would be looking after this child on his own. But for a man like him, there was always a way.


As Benji grew up, he knew nothing of his father's abuse to his mother. He had just been told that she died giving birth to him. He accepted that, because he never knew anything different. From as early as he can remember, different women would come to the house to look after him. They all wore bright red lipstick and sat only in, what looked like, their underwear. Sometimes, his father would take them upstairs to talk about business while Benji sat watching tv. Sometimes, the women stayed over night and Benji always saw them in the morning with little red marks over their exposed skin. He thought they were just clumsy. It wasn't until Benji was ten that his father began to go out with the women, instead of staying inside. Benji was always left with enough food, water, and even a little money. But he was always by himself. Having been surrounded by hundreds of women until then, he was very lonely. It wasn't until he turned twelve that he began to venture out into the night, just after his father left. He would walk into town, passing nightclubs and strip bars. Sometimes he would pass men who would lick their lips at him and offer him money. He politely declined, insisting he had to find his father, and they generally let him walk away untouched. When he turned fifteen, the importance of money was shoved into his face, he wanted everything and anything he could get his hands on. His father told him to earn it, and he immediately thought back to the men on the corner. The ones who had smirked at him when he passed, the ones who had grabbed his behind in the street and pressed him up against the wall. There was his money.


Months later, his Father was looking at his sons bank statement when the six figure number at the end caused him to feel faint. The confrontations began, the men argued over the money and pretty soon it became violent. Benji's father cut through his son's skin as the boy tried to fight back. It all ended in tears, as fights generally do, Gregory was left for dead, on the floor, his guts spilling over his pressed trouser suit. Benji packed his case and left his home in flames. Never to return. But he was caught, he pleaded that one of his father's business partners had done it to get his money, and a man by Arthur Goldburg was sent to prison for murder. Benji was put into care and pretty soon he'd gained a name for himself. Picking up tricks from the streets, he would con the other kids in care to give him their things for money. He would give them money, but less than half of the object's worth. He would then sell them on for a profit. But his escapades hadn't ended. He wasn't allowed out at night, house rules, so he brought people to him. His Dawson's Creek ladder to his bedroom window allowed people to enter and exit in good time. One night, a regular, James, was seen climbing the ladder, without thinking Benji told him to hide in the cupboard as his social worker began to climb the stairs. However, they were both caught, and Benji's social worker confiscated his money until he was old enough to use it wisely.
