Perched upon a dirty couch arm, Lacey wrapped her leg around the other. Her foot was bouncing impatiently. She turned down 2 guys already. Where the fuck was he? There was no way in hell she would ask another person if they had seen Simon. It was humiliating enough being alone at a party.
Lacey sighed out, yanking her phone out of her small purse for the 5th time. What was she expecting? Simon rarely texted her back. It wasn't like Lacey to worry about people other than herself, but this was the 3rd fucking party he had ditched, and these parties just weren't fun without him. She couldn't make fun of the ditsy blondes who were so wasted that they couldn't keep their heels on or their hair down without Simon. Lacey looked like a loser sitting alone. Lacey sent Simon another text.
Simon, come on. You're seriously skipping another party? Do you hate me? ):
Lacey watched the sending message until her phone blinked, confirming that the message was sent. She shoved her phone back into the clutch angrily. She was beyond pissed. Okay, just wait 10 more minutes, then march up to his dorm with 2 beers. Lacey leaned over, glancing over at the beer cooler. It was surrounded by jocks. She rolled her eyes, leaning back over to her original position. If they were all gone, she would have to buy her own beer. Maybe she could steal some weed. Lacey ran her tongue across her teeth, thinking hard.
"Hey, sexy!" Lacey's head shot up at the shout. A broad chested jock was walking toward her, his drunkenness was so obvious. Lacey sat up taller, pursing her lips.
"Who, me?" Lacey smirked at the jock. When the tall man asked her to dance, she knew where it would lead to and tonight, she just wasn't in the mood for it. Plus, she had forgotten to bring a condom tonight. Simon usually backed her up if she had needed one, but he wasn't here. She frowned a little at the muscled jock.
Lacey pulled out a pen and wrote her name and number on the jock's hand. "I'm sorry, hun. Call me?" She winked at the man, standing up. Lacey strode over to the beer cooler, shoving the skinny bitches out of the way and charming the jocks to let her through. Lacey snatched 2 cold beers, marching straight out of the house, ignoring the glares she had received for taking the last two beers.
In a huff, Lacey trudged her way up to Simon's dorm in her heels. She marched to the door, taking one last stomp at the closed door. She gave a warning knock before she burst into the room, the distinct smell of Simon hit her. Lacey bit her lip, seriously worried about her friend.
"Simon, what the hell is up with you!? This is like the 3rd fucking party you've skipped! Lacey said to Simon, who was laying face down on his bed. She stared at his butt. "As much as I like your ass, I would like to see your face, so you can explain to me why you hate me." Lacey pouted, stamping her foot. She placed the two beers on his nightstand before shoving the mattress with her knee.

Simon had tried to talk himself into going to that party, if only so people wouldn't start getting suspicious. He knew Lacey was probably getting a bit pissed off at his absence from the last few parties. He just couldn't bring himself to go, to pretend like he was having a good time, to sleep with another slutty blonde girl.
It wasn't working anymore. Simon had realized this long, long ago. It was only recently that he couldn't even stand to get himself out of his dorm and to the parties. He just remembered the last sorry attempt at getting through a party ending with him sitting alone in one of the guest rooms with a bottle of Jose Cuervo. The next morning, upon waking up on said guest room floor, he realized it was probably time to take a little break.
It turned out that those parties- the drinking, the drugs, the sleeping around- were the only thing keeping him away from any thoughts of what was actually going on. Now, lying alone in his dorm room with nothing but the ceiling to stare at, his mind was able to roam where ever it pleased. And it seemed to want to roam over to the worst of thoughts.
Why didn't you jump? You were right there, right at the ledge. You were so close. People were egging you closer... And still, you don't jump. Simon huffed and turned onto his side. You know why you didn't jump. It's Percy, isn't it? He talked you out of it. And he's going to keep doing that for how long? Eventually, he'll get tired of you too. If not because you're so damn stubborn, then because you're just an over-all douchebag. He turned onto his other side. The longer you wait to do it, the harder it's going to get, and the more people you'll have wishing you'd get it over with. Finally he ended up on his stomach, face buried in his pillow as he groaned out. He remained on his stomach for several minutes until an impatient knock came from the door.
For a moment, he didn't even look up, just sighed out and waited for the sound of who it was- though he was pretty sure it was Lacey. Finally flipping over onto his back and sitting up on his elbows lazily, he glanced up at her.
"I know, I know. I missed another party. I'm sorry, Lace. I am. I just wasn't feeling it." He told her, shrugging his shoulders and falling back flat on his back, staring up at the ceiling again. "They just aren't so much fun anymore." He grumbled, hands folded across his stomach.

Turning her head slightly to the side, she frowned at Simon. He looked ruined. His eyes were dull and his face paler than usual. Lacey really wasn't that observant, but his face just screamed out for help. She bit her bottom lip, her eyebrows furrowing. "What the fuck are you talking about?" Lacey tugged on the bottom of her short dress before plopping down next to Simon, one leg folded underneath her. She ran her hand gently across his arm. "Well, you could have told me that you didn't want to go." She told him gently, realizing that she shouldn't be so harsh. "Oh my God, you should have seen me. I looked like a loser." She chuckled to herself.
Lacey continued running her hand across his arm and chest. She knew how this calmed some people down. She'd done it many times before. "What do you mean?" Lacey looked more confused than ever. They always had fun at parties. It was hilarious when they couldn't find each other the next morning. What happened to the Simon that Lacey knew? She turned her mouth down again. "Seriously, what's up with you, Simon?" She kicked off her heels and dropped her clutch on the floor, laying on her side next to Simon.
"Talk to me. You know you can trust me." She ran her manicured fingers through the hair on the side of his head.

Simon's picked uneasily at a loose thread in his bedspread, only half-listening to what Lacey was saying. His mind was too busy drifting back to what he'd been thinking about before Lacey had walked in. Biting on the inside of his cheek, he studied the ceiling above him. He couldn't find anything secure to tie a rope to. Hanging himself was out... His hand stopped above the loose thread he'd been picking at and fell to hang off the side of the bed, trying to remember what kind of pills he had under there. Anything strong enough to over-dose on... He couldn't think of much, though, unless he took a little of everything.
He finally glanced back over to Lacey when he realized she'd stopped talking and was looking at him concerned. Sitting up decisively, he ran a hand through his hair, scratching to top of his head as he tried to think of a way to explain this to her. "Look, okay, first of all, don't go talking to anyone about this, alright? I mean no one." He implored, looking her seriously in the eye before rubbing the back of his neck anxiously.
Simon wasn't one to let anyone anywhere close to his personal life. But Lacey was someone he actually could stand- and that was a rare person in his eyes. Letting his eyes roam the room a moment, as if there would be people hiding under his desk or in the closet (wouldn't be the first time) he finally looked back over to Lacey.
"The parties were all fun and shit for a while...but it's just I'm not feeling so...up to partying lately. I've been thinking about- uhm, well...- I mean, suicide wouldn't be so bad, would it? I mean, maybe a second or two of pain- depending on how you do it, but then it's over. It's not like it would devastate anyone. My parents would probably be a bit relieved to had all their credit cards to themselves again... And anyway, people have been suggesting it to me lately. I know I'm not a crowd pleaser... but it'd be more for me than anyone... I could do it somewhere where no one found out- that is if you didn't tell- which I'm hoping you won't...and...well.." Simon trailed off, shrugging, not able to make eye contact with Lacey now.

To Simon's warning, Lacey only nodded, sitting up with him. She stared back at him with just as much intensity. Lacey usually couldn't keep a secret to save her life, but this seemed pretty serious. Who would she tell anyway? If Lacey heard some juicy gossip, she would always tell Simon about it. Her teeth were buried deep inside of her full bottom lip, leaving teeth marks for certain.
Her eyebrows keep furrowing and unfurrowing as Simon tried to explain what was going on. At the word "suicide", Lacey's eyes became huge, her teeth sinking even deeper inside of her lip. I can't believe this. Lacey racked her brain, thinking of instances where Simon might have showed signs of wanting to kill himself. She could only think of one, and that's when he was ape-shit crazy on top of the casino. The only thing was, that at the casino, he was high as fuck. Would he really attempt suicide when he wasn't drunk, or high, or popping pills?
Lacey swallowed the giant lump in her throat, shaking her head violently. She felt her hair shake around her head. "No. Don't talk like that, Simon. Why are you saying shit like this?" Lacey reached out to him, grabbing his hand. She gripped it tightly, hoping it would shove the lump in her throat back to her stomach, which felt like it was in a thousand knots. "I can't be the only person who thinks you're fucking awesome." She shook her head more, still not believing the words that came out of Simon's mouth. Her head was spinning. Who else really even liked Simon?
She looked around him frantically, trying to think of someone else, anybody else who cared about Simon as much as she did.
"P-Percy! What about Percy, huh?" She croaked out, placing both her hands on his hand.

Simon's eyes finally trailed back up to Lacey's face, studying her face for a moment as she began talking. Glancing down as she took his hand, he wondered if she'd notice how clammy it was. His hands were never fucking clammy. But perhaps clammy hands was just a side-effect of thinking about suicide for the past few hours...
"It's not a matter of who likes me and who doesn't... It's just-..." He trailed off a bit frustrated with the fact he couldn't decide on how to word this. It's just...I fucking hate everything and can't stand myself most of the time. It's just that I'm never happy and I don't care about anything... It's just...I was supposed to die long before now and I didn't because I got "lucky". Groaning miserably at the mention of Percy he pulled his hand away from Lacey, getting up off of the bed and pacing a moment.
"What about him, Lacey? You think I haven't thought about what he'd think about this? I mean, I honestly have no fucking clue. I'd like to think that-" His voice caught as he struggled to say what he really wanted- needed to say. To think that he'd care... That it would matter to him... He waved it off.
"This isn't about anyone else, Lacey. This is just about-" He broke off to let out a defeated sigh, plopping back down onto the bed, putting his chin in his hand, arm resting on one knee. "I should've done it earlier. I should've gotten it over with... now it's so hard when everyone's watching everything I do, every fucking mistake I make. I just want to make it stop..." He said, letting out another long breath and running a hand over his face in a tired manner.

Lacey's frown seemed to become deeper and deeper with every word that came out of Simon's mouth. She refused to let tears fall as she rubbed the sting away from her eyes, wiping nearly all of the eye shadow from her lids. Lacey had to be at least a little strong, realizing that Simon was serious about it. Watching Simon pace the floor, she played with her hand, pulling nervously at her finger joints. Her chin quivered thinking about what life without Simon would be like. She'd be depressed for a year. She'd miss him so much. Lacey didn't know what to do.
"Simon, I think he cares. Or at least he should." She shook her head. "You know that I care." Lacey stared at Simon's face, her eyes furrowing more. She honestly didn't understand it. "It was a sign. A sign that you shouldn't take your own life." Lacey said quietly. She pulled at the corner of her eyes again, resisting the sting. "I wish I could do something to help you.." She scooted down to the edge, sitting close to him. "But I know nothing I say will convince you otherwise." Lacey's voice cracked at the last word. She whipped her head to the other side. She couldn't bring herself to touch him, or to look at him. It would be too heart-breaking. It was enough to know that he would be killing himself, she couldn't let herself say good-bye. "I really wish I could understand.." Lacey whispered.
