Freude ran his hands through his hair, soaking his skin in the shower. He'd spent the night with his mother - but had told Caleb he was going out on business. He's only spent the night with his family because he'd had to ask his mother's opinion about something very important. Marriage. Freude's parents had been happily married for nearly forty years. He had asked his father how he had proposed to his mother. But Pom had gone on about a trip he had taken Jesse on, to Japan or something, and how he had proposed in front of some Japanese palace because she had been in love with the Japanese culture. A trip like that just to propose, it was no wonder she said yes. But Jesse whispered that a simple romantic dinner would have yielded the same result.
Jumping out of the shower, Freude dressed himself in on of his best suits - unfortunately one he had worn for Jimmy, but that couldn't be helped. Going down to the kitchen he met his mother who swooped on him like a vulture to it's prey, straightening his shirt, his tie and smoothing down his unruly hair. She even licked her thumb and rubbed a smudge off his cheek. Mother, he hissed, embarrassed, even if no one else was there. Good Luck, she whispered, kissing his cheek and wiping it away before he could react.
Picking up a little blue box from the kitchen table he checked the contents were still intact. It was safe, still shining.
Leaving his home he drove to the most expensive restaurant, knowing there was already a ball under-way. Pushing past the people who were blocking the doorway, Freude entered the grand hall. Already on the lookout for his boyfriend - and also Jimmy to make sure the other man wouldn't ruin anything. Pulling out his phone he found Caleb's contact and composed a new message - Are you here yet? I have something to ask you.
He made his way to the back of the room, watching all the body's dancing past him. He'd never seen anything so grand, so beautiful. Taking a few deep breaths he began to pace, his nerves setting in. He could do this, it was just a simple question. Four words. He was making this more difficult than it needed to be. As long as Caleb said yes...

Nooo, not traffic. Not tonight. Not when there was a friggin' ball taking place at the Ritz. A ball. It was like Caleb's number one fantasy to go to one of these things (well, his number one fantasy next to a fairy-tale wedding). But then of course, balls were usually the thing in fairy-tales that led to the weddings. So, he needed to get there, like, nowww. The SUV in front of him was practically in park, though, and for good reason he guessed, since it was backed up at the stoplight for at least a mile.
When the big car in front of him finally actually inched forward, Caleb let out a squeal of excitement, bouncing slightly in his seat and he put the smallest amount of pressure on the gas pedal with his foot and successfully got a centimeter closer to the Ritz.
The blonde pulled the rear-view mirror down to check his bow tie one more time, finding it still in place from when last he'd checked (two minutes ago). Turning the volume up as Jesse McCartney's voice came from his Disney Mania cd, he tapped his finger against the steering wheel lightly, trying to keep his patients and not yell the thing he wanted to yell at the people still stopped at the green light- things like "JEEZ MISTER MOVE YOUR TUSH." Yes, a bad-ass he was.
When the line of cars finally started to move again, Caleb took his foot off the gas, and followed at as close a distance to the car in front of him as he could without actually driving his mini-van into the trunk of the SUV. The traffic lightened marginally as he neared the Ritz, and Caleb was able to breathe easily when he spotted the large, but packed parking lot of the fancy restaurant.
His pocket vibrated as he was getting out of the car, and from within in it he retrieved the small cell, smiling as he saw Freude's name flashing across it. Was it weird to still get butterflies seeing his name after being with him for so long? He decided it wasn't, and read over the message. Freude was here before him. Something that wasn't exactly normal for the couple, since Caleb was all about punctuality, but he figured the traffic had contributed to the situation. I have something to ask you was what Caleb was reading over a few times. He had to stop himself from thinking too far into it, and pressed the button to reply; I'm here! Just got out of the clutches of a major traffic jam. He explained briefly, pushing through the front hall of the restaurant, trying not to dwell to long on how amazing the place looked.
He could definitely feel the butterflies swimming around in him as he watched people waltz around to the slow romantic music. It all just made him want to find Freude more quickly, though, and when he finally spotted the boy, he jumped slightly on the spot and had to refrain from any scampering that might have usually proceeded. Instead he just took a few quick steps over to the boy and pulled his arms around Freude tightly.
"Hi, I'm here. Isn't this just amazing. It's like something right out of Cinderella. I feel like any moment a girl in glass slippers could come waltzing through the door." Caleb was rambling excitedly, arms still around Freude comfortably as his eyes gleamed brightly up into the other boy's face.

Freude smiled at his phone at the reply, hoping that Caleb was driving safely. There had been several close encounters with Caleb and his driving and Freude worried every time he knew the boy was out in his car. He rested against one of the walls slightly, one eye on the door. He could feel his heart beat quickening as each second went past.
Suddenly he saw his boyfriend appear in the doorway and in less than ten seconds the other's arms were around him. He smiled softly and looked down at Caleb, glad the boy had made it in one piece. It's beautiful, he agreed, slipping his hand down into Caleb's and leading him to one side of the room; out some glass double doors and onto the Ritz balcony.
Turning he took a deep breath and tried to focus, his eyes on Caleb. Blocking out the sounds of the music and the people inside. So, I said I had something to ask, he began, pulling Caleb forward and resting his fingers on the boy's hips.
The first time I met you, I was sixteen. You'd sat yourself down in the library - when the school had a power cut - with your guitar and you were playing to your friends. I think I fell instantly in love with you. I remember the first time I bought you cookies, we shared them together and you got chocolate on your nose, Freude couldn't help but smile, You are such an incredible boy, Caleb. You have completely changed me for the better and I love every second I get to spend with you. From watching Disney movies in bed to playing with Copper in the park. I love you more than anything in the world. You make me happier than I have ever been and I can't imagine going a second without you in my life.
Freude took a deep breath and removed his hands from Caleb's hips. Reaching into his jacket pocket he pulled out a small navy box. Getting down on one knee, he took Caleb's hand looking up at the other boy with a smile.
Caleb Owen Darling, I would like to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?

Letting Freude lead him chipperly, he continued to look around the large ballroom, eyes trying to take in every little thing until they returned to Freude, who looked pretty fantastic himself. For a second he just let his eyes study every little perfect detail of the other, squeezing his hand smilingly and letting out a light gasp at the balcony. This really was something out of a fairy tale.
Turning fully to Freude as the other pulled him close, he rested his hands comfortably on the others arms, nodding slowly at the mention of what Freude had wanted to ask him. Before Freude had gotten very far with what he was saying, Caleb's heart was already beginning to speed up. Eyes glued to the other, immediately blushing when his boyfriend went on saying the absolute sweetest things he'd ever heard. And he would've said something back how equally amazing Freude was if he could get his mouth to form words, or if his heart could give him a moment to properly process everything.
It was when the boy moved down onto his knee that his heart skipped six or seven beats. A hand went up to his mouth as he watched motionlessly as Freude took his hand (which was probably shaking, and sweaty by this point). As was per usual for moments like these in Caleb Darling's life, his eyes were welling up with tears fast and soon they were slipping down his face as Freude said the exact words the blonde had been dreaming about hearing for the entirety of his existence. He was sure his reaction was much less attractive and magical than in the romance films he'd seen. But he was just too gosh darn over the moon to care. Nodding fervently as his hand gripped at Freude's tightly, he shuddered out trying not to make himself tear up even more than he already was.
"I- I c-can't believe- I th-thought- I had a f-feeling this was- but I didn't think- and I wasn't- and I don't- I just- I love you so, so, so much- I- Yes! I mean, yes I will! I will marry you." Caleb finally was able to stammer out between sniffles and pulling Freude up into a passionate kiss.
He could honestly say now that the real thing was a hundred times better than anything out of a film or storybook.

Freude's teeth grazed over his bottom lip, waiting patiently for the answer he was looking for. He could feel the beating of his heart louder than any music that was playing in the room next door to them. He wished it would be still and silent so he could understand the reason Caleb's eyes were welling up. Was he going to say No?
His own eyes grew wide as he was pulled to his feet and kissed passionately. His whole body was shaking and he couldn't feel his own fingers as he wrapped his arms around his boyfriend fiancé's small body. He couldn't believe it. They were engaged. Going to be married. Going to spend the rest of their lives together.
He pulled away from the kiss slowly and looked down at Caleb, smiling lightly and kissing the boy's forehead. Reaching down he took Caleb's hand and finally slipped the ring on the boy's finger. It was a little too big, but it could be changed - there was no harm in that.
Biting his lip again he bent forward and kissed Caleb again, slowly this time, carefully, calm. As if they had all the time in the world. It was a wonderful feeling. I love you, he whispered, wiping a stray tear from Caleb's cheek.
There had been many times in his life that Freude had denied any feelings for Caleb - in front of Jimmy, in front of the other Suits. Mostly to protect him, but maybe - a little - to protect himself. Freude hadn't had many relationships before Caleb...not real ones. One night stands. That was it. Now, here he was...it was real.
Would you care to dance? Freude finally said with a smile, sliding his hand onto Caleb's hip - the other taking the other boy's finger. My mother said she always took me to dance class during middle school for this exact reason, he admitted shyly, having never revealed his ability to dance before now.
