- He was a boy at thirteen when he got out of the camps. He struggled and struggled and made a life for himself, but couldn't forget what happened. One night he saw the German shoulder who he knew shot his little sister Anya in the back of the head when she was running to the fence when she saw Mason the solider also killed his mother. He waited until the man was drunk, followed him into a alley and stabbed him to death. That was when Mason decied it as best to leave Germany.
For the longest time he was a government assassin after going up the ranks of soldiers. He still keeps a gun or knife with him at all times.

OVERALL PERSONALITY :
- Mr.Vanderson has two sides to him. With his family and students, he can be fun and able to joke around and make things enjoyable. He has a passion for teaching, and making sure his students know what it means to be a good person. He is also very, very loving. You'll normally see him holding Nelly's hand or Quinn's hand while talking to them. He touches students lightly on the back but has never been inappropriate with them. He does have a temper though, and some patience to go with it. He will give you three tries to get homework in, while in his class. The first time you will get a gentle talking two, a second time a stern one and the third? He will bark at you to get out of his classroom and come back when you're ready to take education seriously. While he is able to joke in class, he will not tolerate racist or just flat out intolerant jokes around him.
The second side? He can be extremely cold and emotionless when needed. This is normally when someone has hurt his family, and he's zeroing in on a topic. It's hard to talk him out of this mood, and he can become rather violent. His family knows better than to ever try and talk to him in this mode. It's normally when he goes to a shooting range.

Anya-3 years old was Heinrich Jr's twin.
OVERALL HISTORY :
Mason was born to a poor Jewish family. His mother was a seamstress and his father a tutor. All his life he will remember them being hard working people, who just wanted to make a good life for their kids. Education had always been important. Then the rounding up of the Jewish peoples happened and Mason lost everything. He is the only Vanderson to have survived the camps, not even his cousins aunts or uncles had made it out. After the incident in the Alley int 1950 when he was twenty he moved to America and joined the army.
In America he meet Nelly,a young army nurse and the two fell in love. They got married as soon as possibly. Then in 1955 the start of Vietnam happened and being the solider he was Mason went. He was a cold hearted killer, and did his duties without being effected too much though he still dreams about it. He got out of vietnam when he was thirty and went to work as a government assassin. All in the background being a husband to Nelly, and a father to his children. Near the 70's when he was forty he had eight young daughters and seven older boys who were expected to be gentlemen to their sisters. If you ask him now he will deny ever having a eighth daughter. He disowned Juliet after she became a drug addicted but accepted Quinn with open arms as a second chance.
Of course he retired and decided to carry on the family tradition of being a scholar. He went to school, became a teacher and became a professor. He loves teaching students, and although he does get a check still from the government he's putting that in savings for when he and Nelly are ready to go to Hawaii and really retire.....and of course there will be some left over for Quinn's future wedding
