The library wasn’t typically Adrienne’s scene, but she needed a book, which felt strange to even think. Her aunt, a blonde Creative Writing Professor, had suggested that she get a book called The Writer’s Journey, and the store she got her textbooks from hadn’t had it. “Christopher Vogler, Christopher Volger…” She whispered to herself has her hand danced across the spines of the books lightly. Although she was known to her family as a ‘party animal’, she actually kind of liked the quiet atmosphere of the library. She wouldn’t want to spend all her time there, because she’d get sick of it eventually, but for a little while, it was nice.
A grin spread across her face when she spotted the right book. Excitedly, she pulled it out. On the spine there was a small image of a maze, and the title, followed by “3rd Edition” Adrienne hoped that wouldn’t matter, but Bianca hadn’t specified a particular edition, so she put it out of her mind. Adrienne flipped the book to look at the back of it and glanced over the blurb. She saw a couple of mentions about the “Hero’s Journey” and a bunch of praise about the book. Underneath all of that, was a small picture of a man staring at the camera like a dork. Adrienne giggled under her breath, Bianca had mentioned that it was “Written by an old codger, but very good nonetheless.” Flipping the book to look at the front cover, Adrienne saw a larger version of the maze on the spine and smiled. Yep, it was definitely the book she had mentioned.
Adrienne took the book under her arm and located the counter. She had every intention of leaving and going back to her dorm, but on the way she noticed a boy stocking shelves in another isle. Fighting the impulse to whistle like a construction worker, she approached him. “Hey, Cutie.” She said, grinning. “I’m Adrienne.” She offered her hand to him, smiling.
