FAMILY: Liane Young -- Antonio Young HISTORY: Liane Nuyen was working at a small Asian-themed corner market the first time she saw him. It had been a slow day, only three or four people had come in. She was ringing up a customer, and thanking them, when he walked through the door. Tall, dark, and handsome. He was dressed like a soldier; camouflage, a canvas bag over one shoulder, black lace up boots. He had a distant look in his soft brown eyes, but a firm smile planted on his lips. The man walked around the empty store, looking at everything. He finally picked up a soda, one with a bright pink label, and made his way to the counter. He handed the cold bottle to Liane and passed over a few bills, she gave him the change and a friendly smile. Do you want a bag, sir? She asked. Antonio Young, a young American-Japanese/Italian military recruit, had just come home from his deployment. It hadn't been very long, a couple years, but he had seen more than his fair share of violence. The calm tranquility of the Asian store seemed so foreign to him. The small twinkle of metal wind chimes, the rustling of the magazine the girl behind the counter was browsing through, every little thing had new meaning to him. He was one of the lucky ones; one that had made it home to be reborn to these beautiful things. Antonio or Tony, as many called him, walked slowly around the store, trying to decide what to purchase. Something he had missed since he had been shipped overseas...His eyes landed on a bubblegum pink bottle and he knew instantly that was it. He picked it up carefully and brought it to the young woman at the front desk. She glanced up from her tabloid and smiled. They would each remember it differently from there. Tony recalls Liane wearing a dress in a deep red color, when she was actually wearing light pink. Liane recalls Tony stuttering sweetly as he forgot his wallet, and he assures her he did not stutter. Whatever happened that day changed both of them. Tony became determined to talk to this woman who smelled of jasmine. Liane began to imagine an alternate universe, where a military man she'd only met once would come into the dreary shop again, and sweep her off her feet. Being from a somewhat decent Oriental family, though, Liane's dreams were hardly realistic. They would want her to marry a respectable man with a clean record and an honorable name. A girl could dream, though, couldn't she? Through complete coincidence, and perhaps divine intervention, the two met again at a small dog park. Liane had a small terrier on a hot pink leash, and she noticed Tony, struggling to keep his large Rottweiler under control. Picking up Hichiro, she walked over to him, tapping his shoulder lightly and engaging in a conversation. He recognized her immediately, and the two exchanged phone numbers, agreeing to phone the other one as soon as possible. Keeping it a secret from her parents, Liane and Tony dated for the next three years, never once growing tired of each other. Then one calm, breezy evening, the couple was eating out at a ritzy restaurant. At the end, Tony led Liane to the window, which had a view of a beautiful glowing fountain and a small amount of greenery sprouting from strange places. He bent down on one knee and asked the timid woman to marry him, and, after a moment of stunned silence, she agreed, only to retract her acceptance. More than anything in the world, Liane wanted to, but she could not picture doing anything without her mother and father's blessing. Tony went to Liane's father, much to her distress, and begged for his blessing, trying to convince the man that he was good enough for his daughter. Her parents, who had been unaware that Liane was involved with anyone, were surprised. Their daughter wanted to marry a man who had next to nothing to his name. They agreed, in the end, and a wedding was held, uniting the two young adults in matrimony. Shortly after, the couple received the news of Liane's first pregnancy. The excitement was short lived, as tragedy struck and the newly weds lost their child. Liane was traumatized, but with time and Tony's careful coaxing, they tried again. Emiko Kana Young was born safely and with no health problems, much to her parent’s relief. They kept her out of harm's way, raising her in a quiet cul-de-sac. Liane fell pregnant only once more, with twins. A few months before her due date, she was involved in a car wreck that killed the growing babies in her stomach instantly, but left her unscarred physically. Emily's parents became more protective over their only child, giving her practically anything her small heart desired, but keeping her from becoming spoiled, like her cousin Jasmine, who would only have to cry for a few short moments to get whatever she wanted. Emily was put to work for her rewards, laziness was unacceptable. Her parents pushed her through school, and life, coaching her to do her best. Failure was also unacceptable.
