Annie didn't know what was happening, but it felt like every time a good sign happened in her life, a pile of bad went along with it. This felt like one of those many, many times. She sighed slightly as she got into Devon's car, hugging her bag close. "Hey....I really do appreciate this, by the way....I owe you." God....after the chat earlier, talking to him in person was a little difficult. Maybe she shouldn't have even called him. Maybe she should've just....dealt with having to hear her dad's voice downstairs again. No. No. That always put her in dark places. This was a much better option in the long run. It was hard for her to really explain the nerves that filled her now. Annie had been so used to her father's putdowns throughout the years that she just assumed them all to be true. But....if she believed them, this kind of thing would be super easy, right? Just a car ride with Mason's brother. Nothing important. "Also, I'm....sorry if I'm keeping you from something more important. I'll make up for it, I promise." She could see her dad talking to her mom from the living room window as she looked out the car. They'd been talking much more frequently lately....she didn't know what she'd do with herself if things fell back into the pattern they had been in when she was young. Annie's dad was a creep. She didn't deserve to have to deal with him, or anything that he had previously done. A little digging brought up a lot of info, and the more he knew, the worse he felt for Annie. She was Mason's friend, but she was also his friend. After pulling into her driveway, he looked over as she climbed in his car, a smile on his face. "No prob, girl. You don't owe me anything." He said with a shrug, shifting into reverse after she closed her door, heading back towards his house.
"It's cool, I'm not working tonight and Mason really wanted to see you, anyway." It was kinda weird that her dad was always over. He had his own house...Annie's mother couldn't be dumb enough to take him back...right? At least Devon hoped. "I guess though, if it helps, you can always live with Mas and I. There's extra rooms I don't use." No matter how weird it did sound, it isn't like he cared. Things on chat couldn't always be taken seriously ,right? She was cool, he just really wasn't..looking...for a relationship.
Stopping at a stop light, he looked over to her. "You alright?"

Annie was still kind of staring out the window blankly when Devon said something about Mason. She glanced back at him and smiled as much as she could in the state she was in at the moment. "I'm always a little surprised she wants me around, really. I know it sounds weird, I just....for some reason, I tend to feel like I'm intruding or something." Did she really just say that out loud? God. She really /was/ shaken up. Usually, she tended to keep that kind of stuff on the inside.
Her eyes were back at the window when Devon stopped at the stoplight, and she almost didn't hear him ask if she was okay. Her brain had been too busy putting together negative scenarios of what was to come. She'd been trying so hard to stay positive about all of this...why was her brain suddenly failing her now? "I don't really know anymore, to be honest. Mom and dad are so close now it feels like everything's just..." She paused, shaking her head. "Sorry, I probably shouldn't pile stuff onto you."
She was never too good at showing people any real feelings. She never knew why, but for some reason, it always felt a little embarrassing. Maybe he wouldn't push it. Maybe the subject could get changed to something ultra positive. Something happy. That's what she needed right now.
((It's okay~~ That kind of thing happens to me all the time XD))

"You're crazy," He said, shaking his head. "You're her best friend, you aren't intruding. Really, don't worry about it. It's not a big deal at all, you're always welcome at my place," He said with a shrug before putting it into first and turning left at the light. At least she didn't live hours away. "Look though, I don't really know a whole lot about your past, and it isn't my business, but don't let him bother you...it kinda just fuels the fire, you know? You and your brother should move out," Devon said, biting his lip.
"Really though, it's fine. I'm majoring in psychology, I'm used to it." He told her, looking at her and winking. It was true. Majoring in psychology, you heard all sorts of fucked up stuff. But it was a little different when it involved friends. Pulling into his driveway, he shut off the car and got out, walking to her side and opening her door, "If you ever need to talk to anyone, you can always talk to me. But, are you hungry?"
It didn't seem to be the right time or place to really talk about problems...she wanted to get away from them, not be immersed in them. "Unless Mas ate it all, there is some pizza...and beer..."

Annie sighed softly when Devon told her her and her brother should move out. She'd heard that from a couple of people, and even though it seemed like it would be something that would work, it really wasn't. At least, according to threats given to her long ago. "Yeah.....I don't know if I could stand moving away....I mean, your guys' house is one thing. I'm used to it, so I can sleep okay. But if I'm staying anywhere else and I get really bad dreams....I assume that's what moving away would feel like."
"I think you forget, we take psychology together," she laughed, shaking her head "I really don't say much in class though, so I can see why." She was actually a little surprised she could joke when too many negative things were swirling around in her head. Oh well. It was a good coping method.
She smiled softly, getting out of the car and letting out a quiet yawn as she hugged her bag close, trying to enjoy the outside. It'd been a bit since she'd stayed over here....and it always made her feel so safe. She was glad that Devon had offered when he did. "Food actually sounds really good right now....I couldn't really get downstairs too much....was working on a project for class. And then, you know, Dad showed up." She rolled her eyes gently.

"Well, you can move here if you want too...I dunno though, never know until you try I guess." He said with a shrug, pulling out his pack of cigarettes and lighter from his back pocket, sticking a cigarette in his mouth, he lit it and took a drag, holding it in for a moment and sighing it out. "Ah, yeah, you do, don't you?" He said with a smile, taking another drag.
"No prob though, you're welcome to anything in the house, Mas is inside." Devon said, realizing he should probably walk in, too. Being a guest in someone's house could be awkward.... Putting out his cigarette on the bottom of his shoe, he opened the door into the house, and moved out of the way. "After you, madame..." Devon said with a wink, giving her a cute smirk. Flirting was harmless...right? She didn't seem too interested anyway, which didn't bother him. Girlfriends were so..needy...and...such a hassle...
After Annie walked in, he closed the door behind them and locked it, "Whatcha want to eat?"

"I feel like..." Annie wasn't really sure how to explain the fears she had of moving away from her place. Her father had given her so many death threats related to the mere hint of the idea that she thought even this conversation might get her into some form of trouble. "....like. I don't know. He's going to find out and one day I'll wake up and he'll be in my bed and it'll be just like it was before....god I'm rambling, sorry." She looked down, hugging herself softly.
A small blush entered her cheeks when he winked at her, and it took her a few seconds to talk herself into going inside. Hadn't he said something about not wanting to be with her? Why was he flirting all the sudden? Guys never did that. She made her way to the couch, sitting down and glancing around. "I really like your house, Dev....it's really comforting...I know I must've said that before."
She paused when he asked her what she wanted to eat and shrugged. "I'm up for anything...I'm really not that picky of an eater...there are only a couple of things I won't eat and I know normal people don't usually have them in their house." She laughed, not sure why she was trying to joke at the moment.

"If you move out, and you move here, I assure you he will not ever be anywhere near you." Devon said matter-of-factly. "Don't let him scare you. In reality, you should be more scared of me than you should be of him. But, that's besides the point. There's an extra room, just let me know if you wanna stay here for awhile. Your dad cannot bother you here." Which was very true.
Locking the door behind him, he watched as she walked to the couch, eyebrow raised at her comment. Comforting? If she only knew. "I'm glad you think that, Annie." He replied, walking into the kitchen and grabbing two beers. Why not? Not like either of them were gonna get wasted off one drink.. Plopping down on the couch next to her, he offered her the bottle, a smile on his face. "I dunno, chinese sounds kinda awesome. If you want that, I can just order out. Doesn't bother me."
Popping the top off the beer, he took a drink and turned on the TV. "You're the guest, it's totally up to you what we eat."

Annie raised an eyebrow when Devon mentioned something about her being more scared of him than her father. She couldn't quite tell if he was joking, or if he was being completely serious about this. She was going to take it as a reference to something she didn't get (because, really, the last thing she needed was to start being paranoid of one of her friends) and shrugged softly. "I uh. I'll think about it. I've been feeling more and more serious about getting the hell out of there lately...but I'd need a job and...no one really calls me when I apply for places..."
God, she was rambling. She needed to stop. She took the beer that was handed to her, putting the bottle to her nose and taking in the aroma before taking a sip, trying really hard not to flinch when she realized how different it tasted compared to what she'd assumed it would. It was bitter. Really, really bitter. She'd get used to it, though....it wasn't as if it was an unpleasant taste or anything.
She smiled softly when he mentioned Chinese food, taking another sip from the bottle to get herself used to the flavor. "Chinese is actually one of my very favorites....I have no idea how you'd know that unless Mas told you...and there aren't many things that would bring that conversation about."
Annie paused, looking him over slightly, trying to figure out what was supposed to be so terrifying about him. She was so bad at reading people, and to her, he just seemed normal. Maybe it really was a joke. Maybe she shouldn't even worry about it. She decided it was in her best interest not to.

"Just let me know. It isn't like you would have to pay to live here or anything." He said with a shrug. Though, he was sure if she knew what he did, she would probably freak out and never talk to him again. Which would not end well with Mason. "You'd just have to be okay with me not being here at night...almost always.."
Saying that made him realize how much he worked. Ugh. Seeing her make a face at the beer, he chuckled. "That's a smooth beer, too. Dark ale. Light ale is worse," He said with a grin. "Really? Mmm, I love chinese. After I moved from Canada to here, I started actually eating it - love it." Which was true. He never really ate it in Montreal. "I dunno, maybe she mentioned, I just really want chinese." He said. It wasn't like he was spying on her, but it sounded like she thought he had been spying.
Taking a drink of his beer, he pulled his phone out and looked to Annie, "What would you like?"
ooc; what WOULD she do if he told her what he does? lolol

Annie really didn't think he meant it when he said she wouldn't have to pay for living there...then again, she wasn't used to taking things from people that she couldn't repay them for. "I uh. I'll think about it. I really do appreciate the offer, though..." She wasn't sure why, but the two weeks or so she'd gotten home alone were rather nice. The thought of moving somewhere where she got to experience that all the time....it seemed even nicer. She couldn't help but think that she would end up getting in loads of trouble for it, though.
She took another sip of the beer, starting to feel like she was getting used to the flavor. "I'm really not used to beer. I mean. Jr drinks it a lot, but he drinks it to be ironic, and the stuff he chooses is disgusting. This is good....I guess I was just surprised that it had any flavor at all." She was going to say that was what it was, anyway, since the 'oh, it was much too bitter the first time' excuse felt weak.
Annie shrugged softly when he asked her what it was she wanted and smiled a little bit. "Sweet and sour pork is my go to Chinese food...but I'm really up for any of it. It's all awesome." She paused, "By the way, Dev, you sounded like you thought I was suspecting you or something earlier. You know I was joking, right? I bet the answer is obvious, but I feel like I need to make sure..."
((uh. I dunno XD I think she might end up getting a little thrown off but then decide she's known worse and accept it for what it is))

"Alright," Devon said with a slight shrug, taking another drink of his beer. Glancing over to her, he raised an eyebrow. "I prefer Canadian beer, but I'll take what I can get. There are some nasty-ass beers out there. I would've offered you wine, but I wasn't sure if you liked it...If you want wine, I will get you some." He offered. "Or, whatever you want. I don't really care. It's up to you."
Hearing her request for chinese, he dialed the Chinese place, ordered for the both of them, and asked for delivery. Hell if he was driving. After hanging up, he looked back to her, eyes narrowing slightly. Thinking over his answer, he shrugged. "It's fine, I know. But look, about your dad. You need to let me know what exactly you want done, okay? He has no right to control you. If you want to move out, move out, and I will make sure he has no say in it."

Annie shook her head, letting out a soft sigh. She had a feeling what she said would be interpreted wrong. "No, no, no, beer is fine, like I said...I just didn't expect flavor. It's really good, I just have to get used to it...." She really didn't understand her brother's obsession with the stuff he drank, other than that it seemed popular among his friends. Usually, the guy made really good choices when it came to drinks. Oh well, she guessed everyone had their guilty pleasures.
She glanced up at him when he mentioned telling him what she wanted done about her dad. What the hell was he going on about? She shook her head softly, "Dev, I don't even get what you're asking. Dad's just dad. He'll probably escape whatever it is I get done to him anyway because he knows how to charm people. I'd move out but he'd just try to get you in trouble like he's done with friends I've had before. Unless you're like, a superhero or something, I really don't see this working out too well for me for a while...."
