Since Ana and Dev had been back from California, they hadn't really had a night.. Alone. Whether it was dinner with mason, or movie night with mason, or hanging in her dorm with Anna or a night on the strip after one of her shows. She didn't get any alone time with him. So tonight mason and her had planned a surprise date night for just the two of them. It was the first night that mason would be gone with that guy Joseph.. It made her a bit nervous, she wasn't going to lie. Ana was starting to think of the girl as a little sister also. She was so sweet, and Ana didn't know this Joseph guy well. She assumed Dev didn't either, but if he was okay with it then I guess the guy must not be so bad. Untying the apron from her waist she hung it back where it belonged, she had cooked his favorite dinner for the two to share. Candlelight was the only source of light when she had turned off the kitchen light. Turning to the clock, she figured he'd be home soon. He worked late, doing what.. She didn't know. But she trusted him, so she wasn't too worred about it. Curling up on his couch, she began to flip through the channels, landing on Adult Swim. Hours later, her laughter was the only sound of the house still. Even that sound was beginning to sound sad. She hadn't known where he'd been.. It was hours later than everything was open on the strip, including most casinos. Yawning, she looked at the clock and shook her head with a sad sigh. So much for a night together, she sighed to herself and began wrapping everything up, hoping they'd be able to just have a rain check for tomorrow night. When her back was turned, she heard the door unlock and she turned around with a smile waiting for Dev to walk through the door. outfit: hereooc. THIS IS GOING TO MAKE ME CRY ALL OF THE TEARS. I hope they survive this x: Also, I figured I'd make her look all cute and innocent to show how opposite they are.

It was always a good night when it ended with a bang. Literally. The Suits were brutal, but for some sick reason, Devon loved it. It was dark in the house of his target, some...Arnold...something or other. Putting his gun back to it's place at the small of his back. A better job would've been a doctor, or something. But this was by far more thrilling. Sneaking out the back door, he began walking the three blocks to his car.
Unlocking the Mustang, he got in and shut the door, started the car up, and headed home. It had been completely dark in the house, which was sort of a good thing, in some ways. Pulling into his driveway, he shut the car off and climbed out, unlocking the front door of his house and pulling his gun out, glancing it, and himself, over in the light. So, the gun was clean, but his shirt was definitely not. Putting his keys up on the hook near the door, he closed and locked the door, then stopped.
Something smelled...well, good. And different. Mason wasn't home..she was out with that Joey kid - who was Devon to stop her? He wasn't her dad.. - he was supposed to be home alone, ... besides Ana, but... she didn't really stay at his house. Turning around, he stared wide-eyed at the redhead. Oh God. He did not want to explain the blood on his shirt, or the gun in his hand. But, he really had no choice now. Devon so badly wanted to keep her in the dark about what he did, despite how much that bothered him. Biting his lip for a moment, he stared down, then looked back to her, a weary smile on his face.
"Uhh, hi, Ana." He said, looking back down to his bloody shirt. Oops. What was he supposed to do now? He had a gun in his hand, and blood on his shirt....and it was close to two am. He so hoped she'd...understand. "Uhm, I can explain, just, uhm, it, and I'll be right back..." He said, hoping she'd stay to let him explain. Quickly walking into his bedroom, he put his gun away in his safe, and pulled his shirt off, grabbing a clean shirt and pulling it on before walking back out, "I'm really sorry, Ana....I....look, I work for Jimmy down at Amnesia, but I guess for lack of better words, I'm an assassin," He mumbled, making a face. He felt so awkward.
"The murders that have been happening, it's been Freude and I." Devon said, watching her carefully. "Please don't be scared, I was terrified you'd leave me, but...it's why I can afford what I do."

Normal girlfriends would greet their boyfriends with a smile and a warm embrace, welcoming them back home. Ana had hoped to do that up until she had seen exactly what Dev had been doing. Her smile faded and her heart sunk. The lump in her throat felt like it was the size of an elephant as she took a step back in fear. There was blood on his shirt, and he had a gun in his hand. Was he going to kill her? What was he doing tonight? Was this a regular thing? So many questions ran through her mind as she took another step back. She wanted to run, but she couldn't. Her heart was aching as it raced, practically beating out of her chest.
When he left. She began looking around, quickly. Using her instincts she grabbed the butcher knife and stood in the middle of the room so Dev couldn't back her into a corner. Of course something had to happen, things were going to well with them. Something HAD to go wrong. Tears welled in her eyes and her bottom lip trembled as much as her knees did. She was terrified, she was falling in love with a murderer. How could she get over this? Could she?
When he came back, he looked like the same normal Dev. It made her sick. How could he look so amazing and innocent when just moments before he was soaked in another person's blood? A tear rolled down her cheek as he began to explain to her what exactly he was doing at night. Shaking her head violently, the tears started rolling down faster and more often as she took a few steps back, keeping the knife behind her back and sobbing, "please tell me you're joking babe.. Please.."
Finally she backed up against the wall, she took her hand from behind her back revealing the knife to him as she slid down the wall into a sitting position. Dropping the knife, she hid her face in her hands and sobbed uncontrollably. "Why would you do that!?" she yelled out in shock and glared up at him, sadness and disappointment in her eyes as she whimpered, "I thought you were better than that..."

Well, that certainly didn't go as Devon had hoped. But honestly, he couldn't of really expected a different response. He knew that she wasn't going to just waltz over and hug him, tell him it was okay. It wasn't. And he knew it, but whether it be the money involved, or maybe even being able to kill someone without repercussion. Either way, he did know it was wrong, he just...couldn't stop. Not with Jimmy as his boss, basically controlling his life.
Frowning, he shook his head. "I wish I could, Ana." He replied, standing still as she slid down against the wall, eyes widening at the site of the butcher knife. Was he that scary? I guess if she had just told him she was a murderer, he'd be weary too. "Please don't cry, I'm sorry..." He said, hesitant on going over to comfort her. That knife was still too close, and as much as he doubted she would stab him, crazier things had happened.
"Ana, please," He started. He really had no idea what to say. But he had to say something. Why was he doing it? "You know I'd never hurt you, Ana. You just have to trust me." Devon said, taking a few steps closer to her, watching to see if she was going to jump up and stab him. He so badly wanted to comfort her, but how could he? She saw him as some sick minded freak now.
With a sigh, he slowly made his way over, moving the knife away from her, and sitting next to her, knowing that it was probably a bad idea, but damn if he was going to let this girl get away from him. "I was offered the job when I moved here. Jimmy owns Amnesia, and I was in there one night..it kinda just went from there. We get hired to kill bad people. People the cops can't take care of. Even though shit is hitting the fan with all the reporters...if we weren't here, Vegas would be full of thugs and crime."
Biting his lip for a moment, he looked to her, realizing how truly upset she was. He was better than that. But the money was so nice, and not having to worry about freaks taking his little sister (hmm, Joey?) or his girlfriend was comforting. Even if he came home with blood on his hands. "Please, Ana. You have to trust me, I'm not that bad guy here." Okay, he was. But in a way, he was the good guy. Maybe a profession in the FBI was a better idea. At least it was legal to kill people then. "I'm so sorry, Ana. I never wanted to hurt you or upset you. It's not as bad as it seems." He said, putting his arm around her shoulders, hugging her softly.
"I'm so, so sorry."

His embrace, even now, was so comforting. It took all of her conscience yelling at her as loud as it could for her to not lean into his arms and just forgive him on the spot. He could sugar coat it all he wanted but the bottom line was he was a murderer. Choking back tears, she wiped her eyes and looked at him, "but how can you do it? How can you go out and do that to a person. Innocent or guilty. They have lives, families.." she trailed off, sobbng again.
"Then you come back to me, act like everything's okay, like you didn't just spend the night out shooting people," she said as she pushed away from him shaking her head, now yelling. She had gotten past the initial shock, now she was just angry. Adrenaline pumped through her veins as she stood to her feet looking down at him.
"How can you sit here every day and be okay with the fact that you're taking people's lives away from them? How can you be so okay with the reporters getting closer and closer to finding out who the killers are!?" taking a deep breath to try to calm herself, she shook her head as tears fell down her cheeks freely. "What are you going to do if they catch you.. You'd really risk that? Leaving Mason alone to fend for herself while you rot away in prison?" choking back tears, she whispered while looking into his eyes with despair, pointing to her heart as she did, "leaving me.."
This just figured, she had finally let someone in and this happened. Shaking her head she looked down. The tears were still falling but she began to feel emotionless. There was nothing she could do. If he was as far gone as he seemed, she couldn't stop him. But she wanted to. Looking up at him again she saw the Dev that she, well... Loved. He was better than this and she knew it. "You have to stop this.." she said, her voice not as it normally was. Her cute, high pitched peppy voice and now grown dark and emotionless. "You're better than this, and you know it."

"I know, I know," He mumbled, shaking his head. It was wrong. It was....more than wrong. But with the death of one, saves thousands of others. "They're bad people, Ana. They aren't killed to just be killed." He said, as if he was trying to assure her. And maybe he was, but he knew it wasn't going to work, no matter how much he did assure her that killing was okay. When she pushed away, Devon stayed still, watching her as she stood up, begging her silently not to go for another knife or something.
"Ana, please. They deserve to die. Would you rather have one die to save many? They won't catch me...they won't catch us." He said. He could feel his heart almost stop at the mention of his sister; and the mere thought of 'leaving Ana'. Sighing heavily, he finally stood up and shook his head. "They won't find the murderers. They won't. I promise. This won't be going on forever, Ana." Devon said to her. But, it was more to assure himself than her.
Staring down at the floor for a moment, he looked back up to her. "I know I do. But, I can't. If it was that easy to just ... quit...I would. But it isn't. Not now. I'd rather run the risk of being caught, and be safe from Jimmy, than quitting and being a target. You and Mason are safe. I promise." He said. Jimmy might as well have been the devil. Devon felt as if he had signed his soul away to him. Though, Devon was questioning if he even had a soul to begin with. The fact murdering people didn't bother him was not a good sign.
"I'm so sorry, Ana. I really am. You gotta just trust me on this. I know how terrible it is, I do. You have to trust me." He said, deciding to just stay where he was. She didn't exactly seem like she wanted to be comforted...not by him at least. "I wanted to tell you sooner, but I was afraid this was going to happen." Devon sighed, "I love you, Ana. I do. I really do. You're one of a kind, and I don't want to lose you. If I could go back in time, and not join the suits, I would. If it meant making you happy."

Wiping her eyes, Ana was trying so hard not to just fall apart in front of him. Although he had changed, she could still see the blood on his shirt, the gun in his hands. Although he wouldn't ever hurt her, and she knew that, it still scared her. But the fact that he was sitting here trying to make murder seem okay was scarier than anything. With her bottom lip trembling, she looked up into his eyes with sadness. She wanted to help him get away from this. She liked to think she could, but he seemed so far gone, it made her heart ache. Could she get passed this..?
Shaking her head, she looked down as he started saying how sorry he was and that he.. loved her. That's what stung the most, and she began sobbing again the second he had said it. She couldn't love a murder, she couldn't.. But she did, so much. Looking up into his eyes with tears, she shook her head as he finished. "You can't, though.. You can't take back everything you've done," she said in almost a whisper. She was so disappointed in him, but of course there had to be a flaw. She even said herself 'no one's perfect.'
Taking in a deep breath, she wrapped her arms around his neck. God, it was so wrong that it felt so right to her even now. Not sure of how exactly she was going to put this, she just stood there for a second and tried to push out everything that had just happened between them and just focus on them. "I.. I love you too," she said and she shook her head, "but I need some time to wrap my head around this." Feeling her heart ache, she bit her bottom lip to try to stop it from trembling. "Don't think I'm breaking up with you because I'm not, I promise.."
Trailing off, she could see the hurt in his eyes and she wanted to take it back immediately, but she couldn't. She knew this was for the best, for not only their relationship but for her sanity. "I will come back in a few days and we will talk, just.. Let me wrap my head around this.. Okay baby?" she said before she leaned up and pulled his head down to press her lips against his softly. In that moment all of their problems seemed to disappear as they kissed, but in that same moment, they all came back and she pulled away, looking up into his eyes again, "I do love you, and I will come back.."
Pulling away gently from his embrace, she grabbed her purse and started heading for the door, half hoping he'd chase after her.
ooc. Ahh D: so hard to write.

"I know I can't. I can't get away from Jimmy though, Ana. Working for him is like working for the devil." He said with a nonchalant shrug. He knew it was a big deal, but...in the end, you only lived once. He was going to hell whether he worked for Jimmy or not. But, it hurt to see Ana this upset. Devon hugged her tight when she wrapped her arms around his neck, not wanting to let go of her. Maybe in fear of her running to the police...or maybe, because he just didn't want too. He did love her, and to him, that was scarier than murder.
Devon made a face, but he couldn't protest. "Okay." He said, wondering what he could say to keep her from leaving. The thoughts left his mind when she kissed him. Now he remembered why relationships were scary. He didn't want her to go, even if she wasn't leaving him, she was still leaving. And he knew that their relationship wasn't ever going to be the same, no matter how hard he tried.
Staring down at her, he sighed, letting go of her. "Ana...please don't leave," He said, hesitating on going after her. But, he was already in 'trouble' with her. Sorta. Devon walked after her, grabbing her arm softly, "Ana, please. Stay."
ooc; haha, yeah it is. D: it suckkks, but it had to happen~ '..all i can see... is darkness following me. and i might be crazy, just for looking at you. i must be crazy, if i think that it's true.. the things i've done to be with you... they echo in my every move....' seemed fitting <<
