John was a little surprised at how easily things had fallen around him lately. He'd gotten out of jail so quickly, and been able to push himself back with his ex so easily he didn't even have to think about it. Sure, there was still the problem of dealing with Annie and her little friends, but he'd win all of them over soon enough. Even if they were annoyingly full of themselves and thought they could do whatever they wanted because they were young.
For some reason, he'd found himself at the mall. He guessed he needed to give himself something to do other than work....but this wasn't really usually somewhere he'd be. The only reason he showed up at all was because one of his colleagues happened to tell him it had a pretty good bookstore with an at least adequate coffee shop. Who knew? Maybe he'd find something interesting there.
John made his way into the bookshop, trying to thumb through and see if anything was interesting that he hadn't read already (sadly, not really--he ended up settling on something technical before taking it to the coffee shop and getting an espresso). Part of him was curious as to if he'd end up running into one of the annoying little brats he'd had to deal with online. He chuckled softly at himself at the thought of any of them thinking they could take him down. Even he at that age was much too young to be doing anything but complain.
He leaned back, half people watching and half scanning the book he held for anything interesting, wondering if this would turn into some form of social interaction or if this was just going to be another day alone. He really didn't care if it was either. He was just glad he didn't have to worry about being in jail anymore.

Mason was at the bookstore, she needed to replace some copies of classic books. The bookstore at the mall was great, it was two floors and she could find anything she needed. Plus also being able to wander with coffee in hand was a plus. She pushed back some of her blonde hair was she wandered around. In tow was a new fresh clean copy of Animal farm and the Scarlet letter. Now she was just shopping for fun, after all. Devon said she could use his card. Turning a corner, she stopped dead in her tracks. Standing there was John. Mr.evan's Annie's father. And out of chat he made her feel her nervous. Maybe he wouldn't notice. Taking a deep breath, she started to walk past him. outfit

It hadn't been too long before John noticed a much too young to be out on her own girl(at least in his opinion) making her way past him. She looked as if she was nervous....as if she somehow knew who he was. Was this one of Annie's friends? He shrugged at himself softly, taking a sip of his coffee before standing and making his way towards her, deciding to try to be friendly.
"You look a little uncomfortable." He didn't know why he was going to attempt to joke about this, but he decided it was a good idea. At least it would get the girl talking...maybe he could get some good info that could get him to win Annie over again. "I do hope it's not all bookstores that get you this way." Lame. Lame. John, what the fuck do you think you're doing?

Mason looked at John, reminding herself that there was no real reason to be rude. She pushed back some more of her hair. Sipping her coffee she shook her head.
"No."she said.'I'm uh just looking for the right book sir.'she said nodding. she smiled nervously and looked at the book shelf. Why did the book she wanted, have to be in the same section of him and probably with her luck in front of him too.

"Ah," John said, chuckling slightly when he saw what kind of books she read. She seemed quite advanced for her age. Wasn't one of Annie's little friends that way, too? He tried to figure that one out in the back of his mind as he spoke again, "Well, what is it? Maybe I can help....I might not come here often, but the layout isn't too hard to figure out." Hopefully, this pretending to be nice stuff would work on her....he really didn't want to change tactics out here where they could be seen.
"I mean, you know, unless you already know where you're going." He took a sip from his espresso, smiling warmly at her. She seemed jumpy. He really, really needed that to go away before he got anywhere new, here.
((....I don't know why that last sentence sounds really weird to me but if it is to you, I'm sorry XD))

Mason looked at John as she slowly willed herself to calm down. They were in public, it's not like he was going to grope her or anything. Besides she had a feeling he knew she'd scream and fight way too loud if he tried to hurt her.
"I'm looking for Les Miserables.' she explained as she looked at him again, pushing back her hair as she glanced towards the book. 'Excuse me." she said as she leaned in and grabbed at the book.

Well well well. That was certainly advanced for someone that age. He was impressed, really. His daughter never read like that....not that he really had wanted her to at the time. He chuckled softly, "Someone your age reading such huge books....I can already tell you're going to go places...." God. Why was he trying the compliments again? He knew that wasn't going to work on her.
He watched her reach out to get the book in front of her, grabbing her arm with one hand when she retrieved it and pushing back some of her hair with the other. "You know....a girl with brains is such an attractive, very very rare thing these days." He winked.

Mason was concentrating on grabbing the book as he leaned forward. She looked towards John as he told her she was going to go places, ok maybe he was somewhat charming. "Oh uh thanks.'she said as she started to pull away.
Then he grabbed her, startling the young girl. She turned to face him , pulling slightly. "I uh thanks, you can let go of me now."she said as she kept pulling.

John could tell the girl wanted so badly to get out of his grasp, but he wanted to let her know that she wasn't always going to get her way. He narrowed his eyes slightly, squeezing harder on her arm and pulling her even closer, leaning in slightly. "I could tell you were charmed earlier. Come on, let me get you something to drink." Because that wasn't creepy at all. Oh well, he didn't give a shit. It wasn't like he was going to get forced back into jail with the deals he'd made with people there.
"I'll let you go if you say yes," He winked, trying to play his slight closeness off as a joke, even though she probably wouldn't take it as such. It was worth a try, anyway, wasn't it?

Mason frowned as he wouldn't let go, but instead tightened his grasp. She didn't like this, and didn't think for one minute he was just messing with her. Even as he winked, the smile just made it worse. "Ok."she said as she stopped trying to pull away. 'You win, you can get me some coffee."

"That a girl," John said with a smile, patting her on the head before taking her hand and leading her towards the coffee bar. "It's been a while since I've interacted with someone so young. Do you even like coffee?" He chuckled, remembering once when he let his daughter try some and she made a face and said it tasted like death.
"You're going to have to forgive me, I'm obviously not in touch with the new generation..." He didn't know why he was letting himself ramble at her. He decided it didn't matter much. He was going to get her anyway.....sooner or later.

Mason had no choice but to let him take her hand, and let him pull her towards the coffee bar. God this felt uncomfortable, where was Devon when you needed him? "oh uh yeah." she said walking. "I like coffee, it just needs enough cream and sugar.'she said smiling awkwardly. 'oh uh it's ok.'

John ordered them both a cup of coffee, handing her hers and leaning into her slightly. "That's really sweet, you know. Acting so grown up at such a young age." He didn't know why he was trying this again. He just decided he'd keep pushing her boundaries until she realized she wasn't going to get away from him until he wanted her to.
He backed away, making his way to the nearest table and sitting down. After taking a sip of his coffee, he motioned to the seat across from him. "You should join me...there's no reason to be shy, I don't bite, you know."
((oh god I hate this reply Chels I'm sorry.))
